Can you put the bed against the wall adjacent to the window we are seeing (long side against the wall, like a day bed with throw pillows against the back) with bookshelves or on either side? It will give more space in the room, and double as a sitting, reading area.

Lovely space (great door!). I'm curious to know why the side windows are pebbled like that. Was it a loo at one time? I agree with Lori that the bed might work better along the single-window wall, with the headboard toward where the dresser sits now. Looks like you're working with furniture you already own, but if there's any possibility of changing some of it, perhaps a chifforobe combining drawers and wardrobe space might replace the current chest and wardrobe and live in the space where the wardrobe is now - especially if he's only home on uni break and presumably won't be emptying his whole closet for a visit.

I would try the bed immediately inside the door / with the headboard where the hanging rack sits now - then it will be a lovely place for a nap and give privacy for the person in the bed even when the door is open. The opposite wall can't do that. Bless your house move - it is a neat room. Don't worry about the beside table there - the window sill will suffice at the head and you can put the proper bedside stuff down by the footboard, flat on the double window wall. A chair by the far window will balance the chest of drawers on the tall wall as close to the closet as makes sense, with a gallery of maps and travel photos to take advantage of the tall wall.

Thanks Eliza Jane for the comments I agree with you both on the location of the bed. I am definitely not adverse to buying new furniture. They are due for an upgrade anyhow as this was all of their childhood furniture. Also like the idea of the wardrobe and draws combined to save space. Not sure what the room was originally but I know it wasn't a loo. That type of glass was used often in 1930s Australian homes. I think it was to allow light but still have privacy. Our front door also has the same glass. This was an old home in our local area that was going to be demolished and we saved her, cut her into 3 pieces and relocated her to our acre of land on the outskirts of town. Thanks again for the help I was really stumped and 2bd guessing myself with the layout.

I can see I will be moving furniture around a bit. This option also sounds good and not one I had thought of. The space does allow for the width of the bed and my son had raised concerns regarding privacy due to the sliding door arrangement which I opted for to save on the fiancé if a normal swinging door. I have just had an armchair recovered in cowhide do that could look really cool! Thank you!
