Living room arrangement #1

I can't decide on the arrangement for my living room! We have only been in our new home for a year, so we are still purchasing decor and have not painted yet. Here are my two arrangement options, but I'm open to other suggestions!

It looks like a lovely room. I'm having a little bit of hard time orienting myself in the 2 pictures. Can you possibly post a pic of the 2 different arrangements taken from the same spot?

^^ or are these 3 pix all of the same arrangement, and you will post separate ones of the #2 arrangement?

Yes, this is the other option which was in another discussion

I prefer the first option pics as the soda couch is more cleaner on the right side as peopel enter that room from the door. plus you have an ottoman with the one couch so always better to push in the corner in my opinion so that it gives you more flow space around middle of room, coffee table, fp tv etc.

I think the room is too narrow for watching TV above the FP. I would put TV opposite FP where the console and mirror are above a credenza. You need a much larger area rug, and with this space and the need for TV and FP to counter balance each other, swivel chairs would be more flexible for turning to view either. These would pump up your palette!

Leslie, I feel as though my couch is too long to put across from the FP/TV, especially since my stairs are in the corner :-/

Hello Anna. Your home views as one of comfort and charm. That being said when I view the arrangements posted there are a couple "tweeks" that could be done to enhance the natural architecture within the space. 1st you could embrace the architecture of the window corner by creating a cozy corner with a chair and possibly a floor lamp with a drum shade to soften and heighten that area. Each arrangement shows a side table placed there which visual chops off the valuable space of the room. Instead either place the end table between the two chairs on that wall or better yet flank the fireplace with two chairs and place the sofa directly across from them. Remember not all pieces need to be identically symmetrical in scale. Enhance smaller pieces with accessories or color with pillows, blankets etc, that demand more attention visually. 2nd when and if you were planning on purchasing a center coffee table and or accent piece...less will be more. opt for a padded ottoman or small tufted bench that may be used with a tray for serving or as additional movable seating. This piece should also be visually light meaning that it has wooden or metal legs and open space beneath. By going with a piece that is cushioned it allows it to soften the space with a decorative fabric instead of the heaviness of a slab of wood. Hope it helps!

P.S. Also re adjust the area rug to be centered in front of the fireplace. Furnishings should skim the edges. Do not be afraid to bring pieces in from exterior wall. You may find a larger area rug will visually enlarge your space.

What is the footprint size of room? Could you put sofa in from of fireplace, but pull out from wall so you could walk behind?

Have you tried angling the sofa on the right hand side of fireplace...with the left hand side of sofa being near the small table on the stair wall? Would need to angle rug long ways...put the chair with ottoman near window corner...side table next to it then recliner. Would open up walk area between dining area and stairs...

Hi Lib, I might try to move the sofa across from the TV/FP, as long as I have walking room behind to my stairs

I have small rooms...they make furniture so massive it make it difficult to get enough seating in a room...look forward to seeing updated pics...
