Oceanfront condo kitchen: from blah to ah

Our clients hated their pink and grey granite, the cabinets were de-laminating while the hardware was failing and the appliances were rusting and noisy (refrigerator). It was time for a complete transformation.
Enter BY DESIGN Builders and Poggenpohl Hawaii...thorough discussions about the clients likes and dislikes, wants and needs, and how the space would be used by various family members and guests helped us to build an efficient and gorgeous kitchen.
Poggenpohl cabinetry is book-matched Ash wood with our signature integrated handles. LED lighting is integrated into all the upper cabinetry. Satin Mirror Doors above the cooktop and sink lend to a lighter more elegant accent.
Included in the new plan are built-in stainless steel appliances with a microwave drawer below a 24" wall oven. A Bosch induction cooktop with touch controls provides additional prep space when not in use (induction cooktops do not retain heat like standard glass cooktops and they are quick to control as well). A hidden recirculating exhaust fan slides out when in use and tucks away when not.
The efficient and quiet Bosch dishwasher is hidden behind a matching cabinet panel so that the wood grain is undisturbed. There is also a trash pullout left of the sink.
The new peninsula contains all drawers for easy access and better storage while the corner wall cabinet has double doors for full access.
The custom granite is Costa Esmeralda in greens and blues to pay homage to the direct ocean view colors. The Ann Sacks Mirror Tile created the perfect reflective backsplash to satisfy the client's desire for a mirror in the kitchen to view the ocean when prepping food or doing dishes.
The adjacent great room includes a dining area, living room and media area. Furnishings were included in this project.

@dclostboy - Thank you! Here's another shot of the waterfall granite to the floor. It is lovely, and we did it in the bath too!

Love the new kitchen......very classy looking. Not so sure I love the cabinet under the TV though.......difficult to say for sure as I cant see the entire room but I wondered at first if it was the older cabinetry.........which I see that it is not. So refreshing to see a kitchen done a little differently. I would be thrilled to have it in my home.

I like the kitchen but not the counter tops... I would have opted for a more "unified" quartz... It looks too buzy with the wood grain... Same problem with the bathroom... Too much patterns...

Aloha and thank you so much for all your comments. Even if this is not "your style" your comments are important to us. This project features fine German Poggenpohl cabinetry which has been contemporary since 1892. The slab doors have been "modern" for many decades. We now have many woods to select from as well as endless colors. The woods tend to warm up the design for a more transitional feeling.

@MinaHerreraDesignLLC - The "window" you saw in the before photo was the reflection of the sliding door frame and painted trim in the mirror above the sink. The new Ann Sacks Mirror tiles are reflective enough to appreciate the ocean view, but not as sharp as an actual mirror, nor as difficult to maintain.

@peetsoo - The Poggenpohl cabinetry below the TV is an off-white matte lacquer finish. It was selected to complement the living room furniture which is white leather and chrome. The concern was that if we made it matching Ash wood it may detract from the beautiful kitchen. The top is a simple slab of Walker Zanger "Cedar", again selected to not detract from the green-blue Costa Esmeralda granite in the kitchen. We are glad we have helped to inspire you : )

@CynthiaBarela - The wood cabinets are Ash and the white cabinets are matte lacquer. They are from Poggenpohl, made in Germany. While you cannot "go pick some up" we would be happy to order them for you : ) As an authorized re-seller of Poggenpohl cabinetry we are not restricted to any one area.

@Natalie - We completely agree with you. One continuous floor is always our first option; however this condo association has very specific rules in regard to flooring materials. This is very typical in our multi-story projects. Since the dining and living area had to remain a carpet, we selected the plush hand made wool carpet you see in the photos.

We are planning to re-shoot the bath photos because in person you do not see the mosaic herringbone detail so pronounced on the back wall. It is a matte glass tile in a very subtle light-green/white, but the photos make it look more intense, which it is not.

Thank you again for all your comments. Much appreciated!
