The slipcover for the Ikea chair only works with that chair. For other chairs you might need to tailor make. And no existing fabric under the slipcover!

Judy, first of all, yes, slipcovers can go over existing upholstery. A quick solution if the slipcover is too short, is to simply sew or have sewn, a coordinating or contrasting border around the bottom hem. If that isn't appealing to you, check on-line at Sure Fit for measurements on their parsons chair slipcovers, and perhaps find a better fit there. Good luck!

Hi Jo, Sure Fit was the first brand I tried and they sure did fit! The only problem with them is they don't offer white or off-white. I like your idea of sewing a border on the bottom though - I also toyed with the idea of cutting off my original skirt so the new skirt would drape better.

Probably best to leave the existing skirt as is -- it will give you an alternate look when you're in the mood for a change, or if you decide down the road to replace the chairs altogether, they can be adopted into a new home as-is. Have fun!
