Need help with exterior colors and green roof

I would like some advice on colors for the house and shutters and door. I would like to paint the exterior wood and brick white (I know there are some nay-sayers about the painting brick but I really want it!). I am thinking replacing the shutters with board & batten shutters in a dark gray and maybe a dusty blue for the door. We are also going to hang a swing on the porch and I would like to match whatever color the door is. The roof makes it hard- it usually isn't quite as yellowish but we have a lot of pollen at the moment. :) Thanks for your help! I'm also considering painting the brick and wood this grayish color, and I'm thinking of this color for the shutters as well. I'm a little worried about too many colors going on...?

Garden design, it looks like you have the roof pitched on the porch? Could that actually be done?

Hi Desiree, we love the dark gray board and battens for your home. The only suggestion we have is that you make sure that you purchase properly fitted shutters. The bay window should not be treated with shutters at all, and the double window should only be dressed with bi-fold shutters (they are shutters that appear to be small but when opened they cover the whole window).

If you do not want to go with bi-folds, we would recommend just adding shutters to the upper level windows.

I love the gray color you have chosen. I am not sure I would paint my front door the same color. I am a fan of a pop of color for the front door. Also I like the idea of defining the front porch with a railing and sprucing up the steps & walkway from the house. Removing the shrubs in front of the porch. A porch swing will be nice or a small seating area.

Do you all have any suggestions to the small window on the second story? Can it be lengthened or change the shape?? Do you think it looks okay?? It bothers me that it isn't center with the front door (but really the front door should be over to the right a few feet).

If you have a green roof, you should have green shutters. I agree with you about painting the siding and the brick white for a unified look. If you have a porch ceiling, I would suggest you paint it a pastel green that harmonizes with the roof and shutter color. The porch floor could be a green that is one or two shades darker than the porch ceiling color.

I just read the comment above my previous post, and I have another thought. Personally I am not bothered so much about the small window on the second story; instead, the small window to the right of the door bothers me because it destroys the symmetry of your house. If you cannot change this window, could you possibly put a set of double windows on the left so that the set matches the double windows on the right? Then, perhaps you could add a small window to the left of the door so that it would match the small window to the right of the door. After all this, it should be easy to move the door a bit to the right and/or add a side light on each side to make the door unit centered. I believe this would help the style of your home immensely.
