I love the traditional ones I use on the stove. We drink a lot of tea and herbal teas too. We love the look of the traditional kettles and it is something that binds me to earlier generations as my mom, aunts, grandmas and great-aunts all had traditional ones and I loved seeing them when I visited.

Week day mornings I tend to heat water in the microwave but I love my copper kettle despite the abuse it got from a careless family member. My bright shiny gift is well antiqued now.

I like the looks of some of the "mod" tea kettles and it's nice if your fixing tea for guests just because of the ritual, but I also like some of the tea specific electrics, e.g. the ones you can find at Teavana etc. because they have different temperature settings for different types of tea, not just heat to boiling.
Also note that a tea kettle is probably as fast as an electric if you have an induction range.

I stick a cup of water in the microwave. Would prefer a teapot... A little more elegant and relaxing.

Induction stove makes kettle boil faster than electric. And doesn't use as much electricity.

I have both. Enjoy having my red tea kettle sitting out on my gas range as a design aspect, but also love the cozy feeling it induces when preparing a pot of steeped tea and it is whistling merrily. The electric one is used when I need more volume of boiled water for making iced tea in the summer. It keeps the heat from the gas range out of the kitchen during the hottest months.

i live in europe, where all they have are electric. i dont like them because they are too expensive, and nasty. the water directly touches the hot coil, which is weird to me, and ours is always gross. theres chunks of who knows what floating around and the filters fall apart and then youre drinking that stuff. im more old fashioned anyway, i love tea kettles.

I absolutely love my boiling water tap. I have hot water instantly. I don't ever have to wait - even one minute. I am officially spoiled!

I have an electric kettle in my house and took my old whistling kettle to the cabin - where time slows down and waiting for the whistle is just another moment of zen relaxation.

Always have had electric kettle..before that electric jug. When we go to USA for trips, staying in hotels etc sooooooo frustrating as no kettles (my husband only drinks tea and the coffee thingies just done boil warmer). We searched many stores and alas and alack, never was able to buy an electric kettle of any sort :( Nice to think that maybe USA have joined the modern world!! Would never use the stove, though my mother in law had a woodstove and always had an old kettle to boil water, though still used a little electric jug.

Hate using a traditional tea kettle when you constantly fill at the top and can't see what the interior looks like. I use an electric tea kettle for my green tea and it allows me to preset my shut off temperature. The suggested temp is 175 degrees and a regular tea kettle won't do that! And anytime I see lime buildup, a mixture of vinegar and water cleans the interior of the stainless kettle, returning it to a brand new look.

I have a new induction cooktop & as it heats so quickly I ditched the electric kettle & bought a whistling kettle.

My sons just gave me an amazing gift - not a kettle but a 'water heater' that boils the water and then maintains it (via insulation, not electricity) at a set temperature (208,195,175,140) depending on your choice. I love it. With my coffee grinder set the night before I can have coffee made within 3 minutes of rising. Oh yes - and it has a timer so I set the timer at night and it goes off completely but comes on so the water is a perfect 195 degrees when I get up. Don't know how I lived without it for so many years.

Our hydro seems to go out on a regular basis so having a kettle that can be placed on the barbecue or the wood stove is the better choice for us

traditional - I just dont need another gadget to take room - my husband is the only tea drinker and he only drinks cold tea.

Electric----- so I don't burn the house down.

i use a7 qt stove top kettle for my electric stove. I keep it 1/3 full so I can quickly heat it up for French press coffee every morning. I opted for a very large traditional because I've a lot of friends that drink tea as opposed to coffee, so this makes it easier to heat a large amount of water for a crowd when entertaining. but I voted 'other' because I'm scheming to get an electric kettle eventually because I know they heat up very quickly. I'm waiting until I can clear more clutter from my life before I can feel comfortable enough to add to it!

Other - boiling water dispenser installed in counter. Easiest and fastest of all!

All the hotels and onsens i stayed at in Japan had hot water dispensers for tea, etc. I loved it and bought one to keep hot water available on my counter all day.

Electric. Ours enables you to set different temperatures, which is great if you drink green tea. It also let's you know what temperature the water is, which is good if the type of tea requires an even lower temperature to be at it's best. It's fast too! It will keep water at a set temperature for up to an hour if you leave it on.

Electric - uses less energy, and my husband always forget he has the kettle on the stove, whistle or no whistle.

Electric Kettle. Used multiple times daily for tea. Glass kettle sides make accurate water level a breeze. Next time will buy a kettle that has temperature adjustment for green tea.

I love my electric kettle, especially in the summer, when I make pitchers of fresh-brewed iced tea. The electric kettle heats the water quickly, and keeps the house cool.

Got turned on to electric while staying at the Sydney Regent years ago. Never went back to stove top. Use it daily to heat water for my Aeropress coffee and later, for tea. Looks great on the counter, is super fast and easy.

I have both, but use my instant hot water most of the time. So easy and convenient!

We have a hot water dispenser at the sink. Love it for tea, but also great for a head start for boiling water for pasta, etc.

If you have an induction cooker your traditional kettle will boil in half a minute! I'm for Alessi traditional kettle- my love!

I admit that I purchased the Michael Graves Design Bells and Whistles Stainless Steel Tea Kettle because it makes a strong design statement and heats the water as well as any other.

It also makes for energetic conversation once on the table due to it's strange resemblance to a 1930's dictator's profile.

I had to vote other because we have three - one electric that we love, and two traditional we use atop the multi-fuel stoves. All three are great but when I say I'll put the kettle on for tea I am talking about my electric.

Mary Creighton, I did the same thing to mine once----noticed the smell of burning plastic in time to prevent catastrophe. That's the kind of thing that happens when I haven't yet had my caffeine. A neighbor, whose husband has Alzheimer's, switched to an electric pot when the gentleman put the kettle on the stove and boiled it dry; fortunately, she came home in time to save the house and hubby, but not the pot.

Electric. Microwaved water tastes funny to me.

Love electric, but always make sure to keep it unplugged when not in use. I'm terrified of fire.

I've never even heard of an electric teapot, I'm a big tea drinker and I like my traditional teapots. I used to heat up the water in the microwave but I think the tea taste better when the water is heated on the stove top; plus I just love the look of traditional tea pots.

Judy, I boil the water in the electric kettle and then pour it over the tea ball (or bags) in the tea pot sat on a thick hot pad. Throw a thick cosy over the tea pot, make sure the cosy and the hot pad meet, and that pot's good for two hours:)

of all the things in my kitchen that gets the most use and would hate to live without has to be my instant hot water dispenser installed on my sink!

Love the electric, but love the beautiful shapes of traditional tea kettles. Haven't thrown the old one away, but since I have an electric stove and the electric kettle works so much faster, I feel I'm saving on electricity.

Surprisingly (since I love gadgets), it has never occurred to me to get an electric kettle. We use a stovetop whistling kettle.

I drink coffee most of the time, with our Keurig pod machine, but husband goes off coffee sometimes and has tea instead. He drinks a loose leaf tea called Mate Latte that he makes in a French press. I also sometimes make mint herbal tea when it's chilly and I feel I've reached my limit on caffeine for the day. Also when we have the time (weekends or dinner parties), we grind our own beans and make coffee in the French press.

I actually don't like the whistling of the kettle. It's practical, but it grates on my nerves.

I am a tea nut, always have been. There's nothing worse than electric teapots. They never bring the water to a good rolling boil to steep your tea in! Especially depending on what type of tea you are steeping. Electric teapots always turn off as soon as they start to boil and cool down just as quickly. You can keep them. They will never have a place in my kitchen.

i'm very fond of copper kettle though traditional, bright copper elevates my mood & in search of one.

Does anyone know of an electric kettle that has NO plastic inside the pot, including the lid?

Saucepan, but I keep burning it up, so I'm about to trade it for a whistling stove top kettle.

my daughter spent a year in england and come home extolling the virtues of an electric kettle. so, if its one mug i do it in the microwave, otherwise use the electric kettle. ours certainly does a rolling boil before it toggles off.
