To tile the full bathroom, or not, that is the question!?

I have a small nyc apt. bathroom and truly don't love the way tiles all around (from floor to ceiliing all over) looks, however the owner of the apt., who I'm related to (so I have to somewhat consider their decision) feels it's much better to tile the whole thing. Is there a "rule of thumb" when it comes to small bathrooms- to tile or not? To me, I feel like it makes it a bit more closed in, as opposed to doing paint on the walls as well.
Thoughts?!

I would tile the entire thing if it is truly small. Select a light colored tile, perhaps a grey/white marble in an interesting linear shape. The lightness should expand the space and the natural graining in the stone will be interesting. The overall impression will be luxe.
