Off center fireplace

My family room is sunken and the fireplace is off center to the right. I hate this room! It is just off the kitchen and leads out to our beautiful back yard. I don't know if we should raise the room to make it level and open up the house from the fireplace or is there any way to move the fireplace. It needs a complete remodel.

You could reface the fireplace with more modern materials of a lighter color. Even mirror finish tiles! It would make it seem bigger and less heavy. Also balance it with built in in same color for your tv and components.

mexican brick is soft and dusty...paint it and spend 30.00 or reface with tile or stone and spend a lot more but will totally change how you feel about that room

Brandi's right! Paint them white, & include space for the TV. Paint the mantle to match too. Voila!

Do you have any other pictures? I have an off center FP and there was a sunken in seating area in front of it. Also, our formal living room was sunken in. We had the sunken in areas filled with gravel and then 6" of concrete on top.

If everything else in your house is symmetrical, you may want to demo and move the FP on center. I think it's worth it to center it with the wall and ceiling peak. It would be a gorgeous focal point. We left our FP off center but our house is modern so it works and the ceilings are flat.
