We're planning to paint our stained wood front door black. I'd love some advice on prepping the surface. This door is on a side of the house that sees a lot of weather abuse in a climate that can be severe, so the paint will need to be tough and adhere well. I'd also love color suggestions, since there's so much variation in black (the home is red brick; the door sidelights will be white). I don't think we want shiny lacquer, but some sheen is desired, similar to the door here:
