Bathtub tile to ceiling or 5 ft?

We are remodeling our daughter's bathroom. The original tile was white 4" X 4" tiles and went 5' above the tub. We gutted the bathroom down to the studs and are now ready for tile decisions. Would you take the tile to the ceiling or take them to the original 5'? We will be installing 12" X 12" ceramic tile with a decorative mosaic insert. The ceilings are standard 8' and there will be a shower curtain.

OK, not the results I expected. That means tiling above the window, which seems odd to me. I haven't found any pictures of tile around a window yet. I've found lots of full wall tile, but not with windows.

They are really difficult to find but here are some.
    Good luck with remodeling!

We are currently building a custom home. One of our bathrooms has a window exactly like yours. We are tiling it tomorrow. All the bathrooms have windows and all will be tiled to the ceiling.

kadodi, are you tiling the entire bathroom or just around the tub?

That bathroom is a Jack & Jill. We are tiling the tub walls and the floor of the section where the tub and toilet are. We are also tiling a small backsplash on the 2 vanities. The floor where the vanities are will be engineered hardwood. We have no children at home, but this bathroom will be where we have our cat genies.

I recommend tiling the ceiling in the shower as well. It protects the ceiling from moisture accumulation and is infinitely more cleanable.

I just tiled the ceiling in our bathrooms for those reasons as well, and was very pleased with how it looked - my 8 foot ceilings appeared taller as well!

Our tub sits in an tile-covered alcove, including the ceiling. It is wonderful. I just love it. So much easier to clean, no weird spots of flying suds on drywall! (kids!)

Tiling to the ceiling can be cheaper than having drywall at the top when you figure the cost of ongoing maintenance and repainting. Many times the material cost of bullnose tile or trim pieces is very comparable to the cost of additional field tile. In the long run, having tile all the way to the ceiling is easier to maintain.. I also prefer to tile the lower portion of the bathroom walls. Cleaning tile behind the toilet is much easier than cleaning painted wall surfaces and lasts much longer before needing attention
