How many pendant lights would you suggest?

I am at that crucial point in my kitchen renovation where I must decide how many pendants I should have over the island. The dimensions of the island are 88" x 64. I was going to go big or go home with my choice but now the sensible part of my brain is shouting "Whoa!" So....I need some help. Would three (approx 12" wide) be too much? Going for a version of the Restoration Hardware Benson pendant. Your thoughts? Thanks.

step back from your island to the point as far as you can go to see the entire view--

Most lights now are using larger, oversized, carriage house lights but depending on the style of other fixtures and hardware there are other choices that could work in your space--
really need more info about what your house will have...

Personally, I consider island lighting to be "task" lighting--not simply decorative because I use my island for food prep and buffet service---we don't eat at it...
Mine is not as long/large and it has a two-light single fixture handing over it...with creamy glass shades.
