I'm installing new hardwood floors. From the start, I have been drawn to birch floors. But I hesitate due to their relative softness, compared to maple. Then last night I discovered that the 'sweet' birch, aka 'black' or 'cherry' birch is slightly harder than maple. But so far, I can't seem to find any flooring distributor that carries that specific species. Has it just been milled out of existence?
