Pretty place! The brightness of the space right now is so appealing; if it were me, I would prioritize keeping it very airy and light. What do you want to use the built-ins for? What's going in/on them?

its open concept to the kitchen so I would like to take the picture rail down and include book case to house my collection of cook books - I was also considering a small built in desk on the right side (there is more space there). and there will be no table there as the kitchen island is very big

Not sure if i understand the question but here goes
think you are headed in the right direction - I would go with the built in cabinets flanking the fireplace on left of fireplace go with 12" or 18" deep cabinets ( bookshelves) ( white finish ) if you don't have enough storage in kitchen then install a tall 24" deep full width builtin cabinet ( w doors) to right of fireplace as supplemental storage if you have enough storage then purchase a roll top desk ( again painted white ) either in a transitional style or a modern style ( depending on the house's vernacular. I would recommend you replace the can lights over the island with 3 pendant lights in the preferred design stylistic direction to anchor the island in the space. enjoy your new kitchen

Thank you Adrian! Without a table there, it will be a bit open on the right side (not necessarily beside the fireplace but the wall where there is an existing bistro table. Just wondering what to do there? And yes the kitchen lights....that is next on the hit list!!! Thank you

We can't see the wall on the right behind the bistro table, but that looks like the perfect spot for the TV.
