Pick a color you like from the pretty stone.

Agree with getting rid of the white and painting the siding all one color. Your painted samples look very grey, which I think does not look good with the brown roof. I'd keep it in the brown family, with the trim a couple of shades off, but same brown family.

I think this exterior was an effort to achieve an "American Tirol" look with the river rock and white stucco, kind of like a lot of homes you see in Austria and Switzerland where there's a layer of dark wood, then white stucco. And it would work pretty well if it weren't for the giant siding level perched on top.
In terms of a color, what about picking up one of the colors in the river rock with a bluish grey, (greyish blue?) like the one on the house in this photo? As a poster above pointed out, you still have to deal with the brown roof, but I think it would get you a bit closer to what I think the original builder was trying to achieve....

Or maybe green with lighter trim? I would try test samples of paint under the lower eaves, perhaps on the bumped out part of the house to the right of the door, so you could envision the color against the roof.

myexuctiveranch - thank you for the photo. You hit it right. I live in a ski resort area. I think that's what they were trying to do. The back of house is even more top heavy with the siding.

It might be helpful to post photos of the back, there are some real experts on here who might be able to help you pull it all together.

That top-heaviness you're talking about is characteristic of houses in Austria and Switzerland. The look seems to depend on wide eaves (to keep the weather out) which is what you don't have on that second level, though you do have it on the first level with the covered porch.





If your home builder built other houses nearby, you might want to take a drive around your neighborhood/town just to see how others have handled this style....

Here's another one: hopefully this link works--it's of an Austrian store with roof additions that stick up like the one on the front of your house. I was interested in how they emphasized the verticals.

Here are some of the side and back. Ignore the mess, just had to replace the deck posts. Hard to get a good photo with the hillside. I know the river rock is popular during a time around me. It was cheap. Lots in the ground.

Sherwin Williams Sticks and Stones might work with your rock.

I like the river rock, just not with the white stucco. I agree the Sticks and Stones looks like a good choice, at least on my monitor.

Odd design for a US home! I'd be tempted to downplay the white.

I have a mountain house, though not a Tirol design, and tortured over colors. Ended up with pretty good mix for my area. It's Sherwin Williams. "Anonymous" 7046 for the main color, with Porpoise for the dark trim and Worldly Grey for the light trim.

I can't describe the colors, so I've attached a few photos of the house during construction and in different light - north, west, and south. Also search for the colors on Houzz and the SW site.

I'm thinking if you want to stay with the Tirol color scheme, then you could use either the Anonymous for the main and the Worldly grey for the stucco, or go even darker and use the Porpoise (or one darker, which is called Urbane Bronze) for the main, and Anonymous for the stucco.

I think I'd also chop down or at least trim that shrub in the middle of the photo. Maybe get rid of the lawn and go to some more natural landscaping?
