Need closet design for reach in, bedroom closet with pitched roof.

We have a pitched roof and I have to duck when I try to reach the storage on left and right sides of the closet. Can't put a floor to ceiling system because of pitch. Solutions would be most welcome, I have not found just the right system or layout to accommodate this space. Thank you.

If the recess is more than about 30", the only real solution to accessing all that space is to widen the door openings or add additional ones.

If the recess is 30" or less, a handy woodworker can make up a bracket to attach to the sloped ceiling to mount a closet rod cup. Then run the closet rod from the door wall to the ceiling. In other words about 12-15" from the door opening into the recess, have a hanging rod perpendicular to the existing one. This would result in less hanging capacity, but more accessible hanging. Then adjacent to this new hanging rod, put some narrow shelves or move the hanging lower, to make the perpendicular hanging more accessible.

No great solutions exist for this dilemma.

Either is a bit of work for little gain.

elfa from The Container Store; call them with measurements of your space (or have them come out and measure.) It's completely customizable tailored to utilize your vertical space more efficiently. It's also affordabe. They work with all budgets. Good luck!

Can you post measurements? Also, photos without all the things in there would be useful.

On the plus side, you have good lighting already.

How would shelves on the sides with varied size plastic boxes fit some of your storage needs?

Thank you for the suggestions. I will post measurements and a clear view soon. I really want a built in with new doors and closet system. I tried basket shelving, but had a problem accessing things because they were not on pull out system, just sitting on shelf.

While dresses and long coats need a single rod 5' or so off the floor, the rods for most shirts and jackets need less height. Most people need less of the former and more of the latter. It looks as if you need to rethink your rod placement with this and your limited head room in mind.

How much rod length you actually need for the longer items. Do you have the budget and floor space within your bedroom for a wardrobe for those longer items? Do you have sufficient ceiling height in the middle of your closet (directly in front of the open doors) to create a double rod for the shorter items

and focus on hanging your clothes only in front of the door opening, perhaps building shelves on each side of that accessible from the side not visible when the doors are open without stepping into the closet and use that space for items such as accessories -- purses and hats and caps and gloves .

How deep is your closet? The size and shape are not all that clear to me.

Would you have enough total rod length to hang all your shorter items -- shirts rather than dresses -- if you placed a pair of rods on each side of your closet -- but front to back rather than across the width of your closet -- two short rods higher (closer to the ceiling) and two longer ones lower so that you step into the middle of your closet to see and reach items hung on all four rods?

If your redo your closet, you may want to add wider doors so when you open them, the entire length of your clothes rods are revealed.
