I am had some great feedback on another aspect of my house, so I wanted to get some ideas for the kitchen. We don't have a ton of money to redo it and there is a lot here to work with, so I'm initially thinking about painting the cabinets white, building a breakfast nook in the corner and buying a pre-built white kitchen island with a cutting board top. Does anyone have any thoughts on this or any better ideas? There's a lot of space here, but it just doesn't feel finished and seems like it could be a lot nicer with a little work. Another option is to stain the cupboards a cherry wood color, which i think would look nice, but I'm not sure if it is possible or how it will look to stain that wood (it's got a glossy finish and almost seems like a fake wood).
