What style is your home? If you are doing a retro look, colored tiles could be cool and funky. But if your house and cabinets are more traditional style and dark brown, then I'd probably do a lighter floor. If you can do real hardwood, maybe a clear maple. (Nice quality laminates are very close to the price of real wood, and they just don't have the depth and warmth of real wood.) Can you post a picture so we can see style and size?

If you are planning on putting laminate flooring in your kitchen, I'd plan to be replacing it in 5-10 years. Water and laminate flooring do not mix. Laminate is great for living rooms and bedrooms but splash some water on the floor and the seams will soak it up, swell, and your floor will look horrible in no time flat. If you want a wood looking floor in a kitchen or bathroom, I suggest a LVT ( luxury vinyl tile). Costs a bit more but it will last and put up with splashes from the sink after washing dishes and dropping pots and pans. A ceramic tile or stone like travertine or slate might also be good options. It really depends on your subfloor.

It's a brand new build house, the builder will give us all over with carpet , but I''ll taking out the carpet. I like more modern style.

You have really good point too. Water and laminate it's not good combination. We also considering to build pool, so I don't want to walk with wet feet from the pool on a laminate all the time.

I agree, no carpet! Travertine is really nice, as Packerman suggests, but it's cold and HARD. And make sure to do a matte finish if you're walking on it from the pool. I have laminate close to my pool area, and when it gets wet, it's definitely slippery, so not a great option. The best waterfront beach homes on the east and west coasts have wood floors everywhere, so that is also an option. As long as it's well sealed, it will stand up pretty well.
