I will let the colour experts chime in here but I do like this style of house. I would probably be inclined to paint the trim the same color as the brick so that there is no contrast between them for a very unified and clean look. Cant say I love the drapes…
I would however suggest having the tree at the front pruned to give it a more sculptural japanese kind of feel. It would give it a more intriguing look against the house instead of looking quite so bushy.

Thanks, Kivi. Ha! Yep - you're right on all accounts. Our tree and landscape folks are next on the list. The Japanese Maple is in great shape but needs some pruning...and I'm no Mr. Miyagi. The drapes came with the house. They are stark, aren't they? I'd love to be all "let's don't cover the windows at all," but my husband would pass out! We've been in the house 2 years...I swear I'm at a total loss of ideas of how to enhance it without changing it.

Some ideas I've found on Houzz that I really like. I love the door color in the second photo! And the globe pendant lights are fantastic, too - might be too much for our place though.

It seems to me that you have a pretty good eye for what to aim for. I think the pictures you posted give a very good idea of what your place might look like. The first shows it as a uniform colour while the last shows the look with a light/white trim. Both look good! I don't think that the pendant lights that you love are any less appropriate on your house than the on the house in the picture. So if you love them… why not? The same for your door colour. Paint it that colour… it looks like it would go well with your house. I think your house would look great!
As for the drapes… why not consider roller blinds. They would have a nice uniform look when down, and when up they could disappear behind the horizontal beam in the windows. On the inside just have them installed behind a box valence so that once again they disappear when they are up.
