Start by removing the rug. Next paint the walls and the ceiling the same color. Go with something light and neutral. Consider replacing all your furniture with the same colored dark wood furniture. Also as for the flooring go with a non patterned lighter color carpet. For the windows consider white wood or faux wood blinds.

Who uses the room? Is it an office for paperwork or is it an office for seeing church members who are seeking counseling? Do you need an area for kids to play while adults talk?
Is the budget just for paint or for new furniture and storage?

The office is for seeing members and a working office. No need for children. The budget does not matter but within reason.

Nice office space, love the light, like the nooks that the walls create, take advantage of them for passive furniture (chairs not in use/bookcase) Would like to see shot of walls behind door for better idea of space. I like the carpet, use it to determine your color scheme. I would move the bookcase to the wall on the left of the window opposite the cross. Where it is now it creates a barrier, moving it away from the entrance would create a more welcoming space and a low light plant would thrive on top of it. Painting the ceiling the same as wall is a great idea. You could also make more of a sil at the window for plants and maybe for some colored glass objects for light to pass through. Moving the desk to the opposite wall will also help or on the diagonal of the right corner wall might make room for printer and give person a bit of a view to the outside. Your seating/meeting area will open up a bit more. A round coffee table is good but if there is room it should be a bit larger for people to rest their papers/beverages on. Ikea has a glass one with wheels and second level for storage. Check Target.com and Kirklands for reasonably priced furniture. Uniform furniture color would also help. Please post an after picture!

Thanks for additional information. Here are some ideas.

Turn the desk 90 degrees so it is is less authoritative and confrontational. Also, the chair occupant can see out the window.

Find a matching set of 2-3 chairs and a nice table with a top that can take some coffee mugs without staining. Your choice of high or low depending on whether it is a working table or a conversational coffee table. Office stores often have good choices of comfort, durability and practicality.

Add storage, for example, another matching bookcase or a closed door bookcase, or move out the things propped up against the bookcase.

Add simple curtain panels on each side of window.

Add some warm and friendly artwork that shows the personality of the office dweller. This is important.

New paint can be a warm gold from the carpet. Don't both adding molding, this is a modern building, and it could look completely out of place. Put the effort into comfort and welcome instead.

The only thing religious in the room is the cross , you could use wallpaper to warm up the office a bit and get a few pieces of religious art like this one for example

Great art on wall, choose your paint from it and maybe move it to a smaller wall like the one where the clock is. Your desk and accoutrement might work great where clock is, sit there to see how you like the view. If it does, the coffee table and seating could move to the front of the window. If you got a standard sized table you could also switch it up and work on your laptop at that table. The table could be perpendicular to the window or butt up against is and be pulled out when needed. Consider how you use your desk. Would it be best to scrap the desk and get a credenza for files and work from a large table where people sit with you for meetings? (It looks very orderly.) The top of the credenza could have a divided decorator box/basket for small office tools that you could place on the table when needed. The clock presents a bit of a conundrum, it might work on the facing wall that comes out from the cross. It needs smaller wall space or an anchor, as it is not to scale with the size of the wall. Is it sentimental? It is not a typical office clock, but there is something that I like about it, especially for the purpose of the room. Really think that moving the sitting area to front of window would be very pleasant, create a focal point, and a natural flow/path through room.

Maria Smith hit the nail on the head: move the desk to where the clock is (turned 90 degrees to face the long wall), move the seating area to the window. Clock next to the window.

Take the metal reddish chairs back to the outer office, I think I see their mates there. Use the wood chairs instead; hunt down the rest of them, I'lll bet there are four. If you like the arrangement, invest in new table and four matching chairs.

A good wood frame for the lovely landscape would probably run about $100-$200 if it is a standard size. Try Aaron Brothers or amazon.com.

can you add in a mezzanine floor for additional storage area above the office - and so create a more cosy area below ?! access via a loft ladder system maybe ?! and if you want a more homely feel loose the vertical blinds - add softer window dressings and use home styles office furniture rather than commercial office furniture .

The color of the walls looks good to me.
The chairs must be comfortable for long seatings and may be the change in office table can make the interior very attractive and comfortable.

Pale green could be quite pretty. Test colors first on foamcore or posterboard to save time.

Hello Everyone: We finished the painting this morning and just put everything back in the office for now. Here are a few pictures of the colour etc. I have also included a picture of the outer office which, with all your amazing comments, we will be painting the gold colour found in the carpet. That was fast. I didn't realize there were two grandfather-style clocks. It looks good, it will be even better when you finish putting things away.
