You know what I did when I was searching for that special rug? I looked through 100s of rugs online and went into local stores. Sounds like you know exactly what you want. Without seeing the room, it's hard to make suggestions. There are probably millions of rugs to choose from online. I would start with pottery barn and crate and barrel.

Thanks for your thoughts. I've been on those sights and others for hours and still haven't found anything that fits the bill. If there is red, it's usually too much. I'm willing to pay for what I want, but maybe what I want isn't out there! I'm hoping someone might know of a website I haven't seen yet. Cheers!

Would help to know which places you've already looked. Also, I would wait unit you get your new furniture in place, then post a picture, if you need design advice. If vendor advice is all you are looking for, try rugs USA, Wayfair/overstock, or maybe local shops.

111ideahound...that is lovely...just too busy for me. I need more subtle pattern and not overly keen on flowers.

You have two posts going for the same dilemma. As I figured, you haven't liked any of the rugs others have suggested, because you have a specific one in mind, which isn't a bad thing. But It will be a one in a thousand chance for someone else to guess which one that is, which wastes everyone's time. I suggest keeping looking yourself to find that perfect rug and ensure the vendor you choose, has a liberal return policy.

Most fine rug shops will allow you to take home a rug or two to try out and return. They realize this is a difficult decision! Don't try to buy this on line; look for something in person, get professional advice on what you are buying and get the exact rug you will love for many years to come.

If you haven't already done so, look online at Rug Studio. They have thousands of rugs and you can sort by material, color, price, style, etc. I haven't bought anything from them yet, but I've seen several Pros on Houzz recommend them.

Jennifer...the photos of the pottery barn sofa is shown on their jute rug and layered. I have decided not to go with Jute for durability reasons. Thanks for the try though. Those photos do capture the warm feel I'm after. Do you think I'd be better going neutral and adding colour in areas other than the rug???

StephE...I certainly hope I am not wasting people's time. I have appreciated the suggestions people have offered as to where to look and photos of rugs they felt might work. This discussion is helpful to me and I think people that are offering ideas are truly trying to be helpful. That's all we can ask of each other...that we help one another. You have an awful lot of negative things to say...maybe your time would be better spent offering something worthwhile.

Choose this shade of green for background of rug. Add a bit of rusty red.

Are you looking for hand knotted wool or hand tufted wool? Hand knotted will last decades but is much more expensive.

sorry, late to respond. first grey and rust rug is from west elm, 2nd is eva from pb, 3rd is bello from west elm, 4th is PB rug, malrowe. i think that first sofa picture is the chunky wool rug from PB, and the 2nd sofa picture i posted for the red oriental that is layered

I think if you stick with a neutral you'll have more options as far as pillows, art, etc
