Studio DEC

We got our permit two weeks ahead of schedule! Dan and his team were professional, provided accurate existing conditions survey, construction and permit documents, and 3rd party structural engineering. We enjoyed working on a variety of design options and ended up expanding the footprint of our house with a ground floor kitchen bump-out and enlarged dormer upstairs. Dan was very responsive and knowledgeable with a variety of code questions. We would definitely not hesitate to work with him again or recommend to friends and family.

We are forever grateful for having been introducted to Studio Dec (Dan Corcoran). Initially we got an estimate for our project from the Contractor firm hammer in hand. They said we would need to find a good architect for our project and are actually the ones that recommended Dan to us! Our project was for a Dadu on the footprint of the existing 15x30 garage and some renovations in our tiny 25x25 bungalow. He gave us 3 3-D mockups of the front space and great estimates of how much our different options would cost. His design suggestions were incredible with a back addition to move our staircase to the basement (now more living space) flow through the back of the house and add a new glassed in room that is truly the best room in our entire home! He was also integral to selecting our contractor (we did NOT go with hammer in hand who quoted 4x the price of everyone else we spoke to). We wanted to do a large portion of the work ourselves and Dan was very knowledgable all along the process and helped us find the help we needed and answer questions as they arose. He is a massive walking memory bank of knowledge in all things architecture and building based. We could not have asked for a better experience...and have highly recommended him to others including our neighbors!

After knowing of Dan and his work for more than a decade, I was excited to finally have the opportunity to collaborate on a significant residential project through Schulte Design Build and Dan's referral. Dan designed a contemporary Pacific NW pavilion to complement our clients' tennis court, for which I was contracted to select colors and finishes. A downstairs entertainment room accesses the new Pavilion patio and hot tub, so Studio DEC and I collaborated on a new bathroom design and extensive custom case work for a new Murphy bed, storage, and wet bar area. After working with Dan and his design team on this project, I have continued to contract his services for drafting because of the ease and quality. I have worked with many independent architects in the last 20 years, and I feel as though I have finally found the architect to be part of my ongoing collaborative team. Implicit to the drafting process is communication of the vision, despite my crude scale drawings on graph paper. Dan and his team interpret my sketches with relative ease and produce accurate representations of what I see in my mind's eye on the first try. If challenges or problems come up in my design process, Dan has offered creative and practical solutions more than once, without imposing upon the original vision. He is a true collaborator with superior professional and interpersonal skills. . When I have larger projects requiring architectural services, Studio DEC is my first referral.

We have had the pleasure of collaborating with Dan on a couple of projects. His creativity and practicality have made working with him a true pleasure and we are looking forward to collaborating on the next one. His knowledge of the building trades and processes makes him a great partner in a project.

We moved into a condo that had a great view, but needed a major face-lift. Dan listened to what we wanted (light, bright, traditional) and designed several creative options for our living room remodel. He gave us lots of good advice re: how to select a contractor, what costs to expect, etc.. Dan even met with our cabinet maker to ensure the success of this project, and he spoke highly of Dan. The end result? We got EXACTLY what we hoped for, and couldn't be happier. Dan was a pleasure to work with, considerate of our budget, and a good listener. On a scale of one to ten, he's an eleven!

Dan worked on blueprints for totally reconfiguring our basement, including building out a large crawl space. He went out of his way to make sure he understood what we wanted, reworked the plans when our needs changed, helped us understand how to get estimates from and best work with contractors, and his rates were very reasonable. Dan is very personable, knowledgeable and responsive. I really recommend him!

Dan and I have collaborated on various projects for the last 13 years. He listens to the clients needs and is conscientious of their budget. I recommend him to any of my clients looking for an architect/designer.

Dan was easy to work with, a knowledgeable professional with great connections and his own creative input. He did a great job incorporating our specific needs, budget and timeline. Our project was a residential home remodel, moving a bathroom, adding a bedroom over a garage and reframing the roof. We did five iterations on the design for which he deftly composed drawings. He explained all phases of the project, helped us find some eco-friendly upgrades, and referred an excellent general contractor to do the work. Some of his ideas have been among our favorite features: - north-facing box window in the bathroom adds tons of light and ventilation and has been a wonderful home for orchids - SolaTube skylights have provided great natural light with minimal cost and additional insulation in the attic and garage have saved us a bundle on heating - the laundry cupboard design we landed on (stacked W&D with a utility sink) has really been working well for us too I would highly recommend Dan's services on architecture and design work.

I have used Studio DEC on numerous remodels and most recently a complete tear-down/new construction custom home. Studio DEC did very thorough, conscientious work and were extremely flexible and pleasant to work with on both big and small projects. They were not only very creative during the design phase, but also demonstrated great project management skills through the permitting and construction process. I would highly recommend them.

When people used to come in my house, they'd say: "oh what a good investment." It was a pretty nondescript tiny box, so I suppose it was hard to go further than that. At the time, I had zero vision regarding how to improve it. Dan came in and talked to me about different possibilities. There were so many things I hadn't considered such as sky tubes (much more economical than sky lights) to get more light, tearing out a closet, open shelving etc. Dan had great ideas and really did a good job of coming up with ways to find materials to work within my budget. The house looks a thousand times better, and the kitchen is actually a pleasure to work in rather than a cramped tight space. Now when people come in my home, they say, "oh, your place is so cozy and great." I agree. This was money well spent.
