Can I replace floor tiles without replacing the floor?

Can I just replace wall tiles?

I have an older bathroom, shower bath, floor. I suspect that there is no floor underneath my bath.

Whenever I get quotes to redo the bathroom, they quickly escalate as i get told I need a new floor.

Yes I realise this wont be perfect but will get the job done.

Spot list of great tips. We are lucky to have a son as a great tiler however it all came down to the planning.

In the downstairs bathroom we used bluestone. We sorted all the tiles out - those with strong pattern, those with minimal pattern and those with almost none. Then we planned the layout, the cuts and the position of the strongest feature tiles.

In the main ensuite bathroom I wanted to use big 90cm tiles. We actually designed the shower size, both the shower and door position so these would really work at their best. Heaps of pre-thought, nil after-thought!
