An airy and light feeling inhabits this kitchen from the white walls to the white cabinets to the bamboo countertop and to the contemporary glass pendant lighting. Glass subway tile serves as the backsplash with an accent of organic leaf shaped glass tile over the cooktop. The island is a two part system that has one stationary piece closes to the window shown here and a movable piece running parallel to the dining room on the left. The movable piece may be moved around for different uses or a breakfast table can take its place instead. LED lighting is placed under the cabinets at the toe kick for a night light effect. Maximizing the functionality of this space, and coordinating the new kitchen with the beautiful remodel completed previously by the client were the two most important aspects of this project. The existing spaces are elegantly decorated with an open plan, dark hardwood floors, and natural stone accents. The new, lighter, more open kitchen flows beautifully into the client’s existing dining room space. Satin nickel hardware blends with the stainless steel appliances and matches the satin nickel details throughout the home. The fully integrated refrigerator next to the narrow pull-out pantry cabinet, take up less visual weight than a traditional stainless steel appliance and the two combine to provide fantastic storage. The glass cabinet doors and decorative lighting beautifully highlight the client’s glassware and dishes. These homemade cabinets needed a serious refresh. We took the tired, storage-lacking kitchen cabinets and turned it into a bright, rustic kitchen dream - all while keeping the existing floor plan! We used Rev-A-Shelf components for salvaging every inch of the cabinets which are a rustic looking Knotty Alder; as is the island which featured a custom made walnut butcher block. To brighten the space, we used light colored Silestone countertops to complement the hammered copper sink and oil rubbed bronze faucet. To add to the ambiance, we used a chiseled travertine backsplash and toe kick & soffit lighting, adding LED lights in the cabinets to light-up when the doors were opened.
