Fusion BowlingRetro home bowling alley installed in a family recreation building in central Minnesota. The Galeana GroupA husband-wife advertising couple purchased her grandparents' ranch style home and wanted an updated bathroom. He's a Graphic Artist/Animator and she's in Account Planning, so good design is a must. Both have an appreciation for retro styles, but it was important that it feel current. (Note the illustration of Godzilla that hangs on the wall.) What a transformation!

Adrienne DeRosaAt the far end of the building, the "sitting room" is a quiet, contemplative space that seems almost hidden from the rest of the house. As the former waiting room of the dentist's office, this space is completely intact, right down to the integrated yellow seating.
Separating this room from the rest of the house is a series of smaller rooms, once former exam rooms and a reception area. Since starting At Home Modern, this side of the house has acted as storage for inventory, although someday the couple can see turning it into extra living quarters or office space.

Adrienne DeRosaIn the master bedroom, ample glass defines the space while promoting a tree-house-like environment.
While the bedroom was part of the original floor plan, it had gained some extra footage during the home's 1968 expansion project. "If you notice the concrete pillars," Bobbie points out, "You can see that that is where the original wall once was." The area beyond the pillars previously served as an outdoor patio until it was enclosed and converted.

Gonyea Custom HomesWe removed the door from the front closet and replaced the tile flooring with light wood planks to blend in to the living room. This new alcove is home to a micro-mudroom, perfect for Minnesota weather.

Rollins Andrew Interiors1950's mid-century modern beach house built by architect Richard Leitch in Carpinteria, California. Leitch built two one-story adjacent homes on the property which made for the perfect space to share seaside with family. In 2016, Emily restored the homes with a goal of melding past and present. Emily kept the beloved simple mid-century atmosphere while enhancing it with interiors that were beachy and fun yet durable and practical. The project also required complete re-landscaping by adding a variety of beautiful grasses and drought tolerant plants, extensive decking, fire pits, and repaving the driveway with cement and brick.

Working with a skilled finish carpenter, we created a beautiful new fence to enclose this family-friendly yard. A small lawn provides space to play and enjoy, while California natives and complimentary shrubs surround the yard. Mature trees are protected with natural wood chip mulch. Rock mulch surrounds the 5-foot perimeter of the house with a few low fuel plants for a fire-safe landscape appropriate to the California foothills.
