Again, indoor/outdoor living, achieved with 16’ of glass, half of which opens directly to the back yard. A space the owners could enjoy with family and friends. Outdoor kitchen is tucked conveniently against a wall outside, but out of view. Colors inspired by the outdoors—natural wood paneled wall, a free-standing element that separates dining room from foyer. We view the chandelier as reminiscent of coral and the tones of the dining chairs, rug, and Cielo Quartzite countertop on the built-ins reflecting those of the bay and sea. (The owners love the ocean.) The hand-silvered, antiqued mirror tile at the back of the built-ins, adds just a touch of glam, as does the jewel-like hardware on the cabinets

Our clients came to us with their vision and an ask to create a timeless family space grounded in their English roots. What resulted was just that: an open and bright English-inspired kitchen featuring custom inset-cabinetry in three painted finishes, aged brass hardware, a large range alcove with built-in shelving, oversized island with plenty of prep space with oversized brass bell pendants and a 12' floor to ceiling pantry. While carefully designed and expertly crafted, the kitchen is "no -fuss" in personality and quite livable for the family which were two must-haves characteristics for the homeowners. To achieve the look and flow, the former posts in the kitchen were removed and two 24' steel beams were installed to support the second floor. All beams, new and old, were sanded down and refinished with a custom stain. We created an opening into the dining room, letting light stream through throughout the day and creating sight lines from room-to-room for this busy family. Modifications were made to the framing of adjacent rooms to allow for the floor-to-ceiling pantry to be installed. New paint, refinished floors, new appliances, and windows were also a part of the overall scope.

As this was the client’s childhood home, we wanted to preserve her memories while still refreshing the interior and bringing it up-to-date. We started with a new spatial layout and increased the size of wall openings to create the sense of an open plan without removing all the walls. By adding a more functional layout and pops of color throughout the space, we were able to achieve a youthful update to a cherished space without losing all the character and memories that the homeowner loved. Inspiration for a transitional living room remodel in Vancouver

HUGE transformation! The homes in this area quintessentially have smaller kitchens that dining rooms. In addition, there is no open floor concept so traffic flow is restricted. In this design, we choose to take over the dining room! The fortunate part is the sunroom on the backside of the home was conditioned as part of the home, so the furniture and space plan transformed this room into the "dining room". What a beautiful thing to have on the backside of the home where the view is great (future pictures to come!). The improvements and challenges were to remove the wall between the kitchen and the formal dining room (which was rarely used) and then extend the kitchen into that space. !! This is a great challenge because it changes the flow, original architectural patterns to the home! We (client included) the plan achieved just that with some sacrifices -- but honestly, with so many more rewards. Inspiration for a modern dark wood floor and brown floor dining room remodel in New York with white walls

Wall to wall cabinets in converted warehouse space, this nook creates a dynamic home office. The cabinet exteriors use a high gloss melamine called Antracita. The recessed open shelving is a textured woodgrain laminate, this one is called Castellina, and the desk surface uses a formica Stainless Steel laminate. The upper doors lift upwards on stays, and we used stainless steel pulls and handles on drawers and doors. We used LED puck lights over the work surface for task lighting. Photos by Metroviews.ca

Formal Dining room, featuring wicker-backed rounded dining chairs as well as a pictograph buffet beneath a beautiful afro-inspired art piece flanked by a spotted table lamp and metal sculptures. Scrolling up to the hero image of this blog post, you were greeted with another view of this stunning formal dining room. The wood dining table is framed by merlot velvet drapery and orange pampas grass in wicker floor vases atop an exquisitely textured area rug. This home exudes a style that truly needs to be seen to be appreciated.

Designed By: Richard Bustos Photos By: Jeri Koegel Ron and Kathy Chaisson have lived in many homes throughout Orange County, including three homes on the Balboa Peninsula and one at Pelican Crest. But when the “kind of retired” couple, as they describe their current status, decided to finally build their ultimate dream house in the flower streets of Corona del Mar, they opted not to skimp on the amenities. “We wanted this house to have the features of a resort,” says Ron. “So we designed it to have a pool on the roof, five patios, a spa, a gym, water walls in the courtyard, fire-pits and steam showers.” To bring that five-star level of luxury to their newly constructed home, the couple enlisted Orange County’s top talent, including our very own rock star design consultant Richard Bustos, who worked alongside interior designer Trish Steel and Patterson Custom Homes as well as Brandon Architects. Together the team created a 4,500 square-foot, five-bedroom, seven-and-a-half-bathroom contemporary house where R&R get top billing in almost every room. Two stories tall and with lots of open spaces, it manages to feel spacious despite its narrow location. And from its third floor patio, it boasts panoramic ocean views. “Overall we wanted this to be contemporary, but we also wanted it to feel warm,” says Ron. Key to creating that look was Richard, who selected the primary pieces from our extensive portfolio of top-quality furnishings. Richard also focused on clean lines and neutral colors to achieve the couple’s modern aesthetic, while allowing both the home’s gorgeous views and Kathy’s art to take center stage. As for that mahogany-lined elevator? “It’s a requirement,” states Ron. “With three levels, and lots of entertaining, we need that elevator for keeping the bar stocked up at the cabana, and for our big barbecue parties.” He adds, “my wife wears high heels a lot of the time, so riding the elevator instead of taking the stairs makes life that much better for her.”

Achieving the old world look and feel in the kitchen, a Melrose Partners Designs signature look is used: high gloss stained doors and cabinets meet polished nickel oversized hardware. Dark walnut interiors and striking English ice box hinges and pulls were procured, along with oversized quartz countertops on both the center island and main counter space run; mirror-polished stainless steel drawer fronts dress up the distressed hickory and insert doors on the main island. An added bonus: a 45-inch under-mounted sink with a hot and cold water dispenser. In order to achieve a grandiose feel for the space, a Cerused finished, 12-inch plank white oak, expanses the floor.
