Newly remodeled home lacked excitement on the exterior. Front porch had wiggly step and empty area below kitchen window. Front lawn was fertilized and trees were trimmed, base of trees framed with border and stones. Black garage door and shutters replaced/shutters painted white. Deck added with step across entire front. New lighting and pebble stone area added in front of new deck with patio furniture to sit out and relax. Curb appeal is dramatic and neighbors stop now to enjoy!

The liberal use of colorful fabrics, abstract artwork, and area rug bring great excitement to this room with neutral walls and flooring. The large sectional give great lounging comfort, yet add a subtle elegance. Throw pillows in 3 different fabrics allow many options to the decor. Swivel accent chairs complete the conversation area. The fireplace is plaster surround with inlaid aluminum strips for accent stripes. The cantilevered hearth is quartz.

Our Solution This project was exciting from the start, the client wanted to entertain in a WOW factor space, have a panoramic view of the garden (which was to be landscaped), add bedrooms and a great master suite. We had some key elements to introduce such as an aquarium separating two rooms; double height spaces and a gloss kitchen, all of which manifest themselves in the completed scheme. Architecture is a process taking a schedule of areas, some key desires and needs, mixing the functionality and creating space. New spaces transform a house making it more valuable, giving it kerb appeal and making it feel like a different building. All of which happened at Ailsa Road.

The homeowners had recently gone through a large renovation where they added onto the existing house and upgraded all the finishes when we were hired to design two of their childrens' bedrooms. We went on create the entire dining room and living room designs. We sourced furniture and accessories for the foyer and put the finishing touches on many other rooms throughout the house. Our client was excited to get to work on his new place. We connected right here on Houzz and had so much fun working together on this project! Upstairs, a beautiful mediation space full of cozy pillows in varying shades of gray and green is complemented with crisp white bead board walls. Natural textures and reclaimed wood is used throughout the home to give it an organic clean feel. We loved the exposed beams in the kitchen and took advantage of the open airy feeling by adding darker toned barstools. A mix of materials for the dining table and chairs keeps it looking fresh and modern. Bursts of color in just the right places add excitement and depth to this super cozy home.

The double waterfall island side with a semi-hidden wine fridge was an interesting design challenge. I had to reduce the depth of the front island cabinets to make room for the full depth wine fridge and added trim above the cabinets to increase the overall height of the counter due to the change in materials for the island countertops. The contrasting double waterfall island side creates an exciting accent with an onyx maple stain on the cabinetry which repeats in the glass cabinets and wall behind the floating shelves throughout the kitchen. The island features four waterfall sides; two in quartzite to match the hood and two in leathered black quartz to match the perimeter countertops.

We bumped out the exterior wall 8′ to give the new kitchen enough space for plenty of circulation, cabinetry and countertops as well as a built-in china cabinet (see before). The buttermilk cabinets, handmade tiles and yellow walls contrast beautifully with the wedgewood blue island and soap stone colored quartz counter tops. The pendant light fixtures and decorative valances add a vintage charm for a truly charming space.
