The space was also repainted to brighten the room and enhance its clean lines. Altogether, this vanity area blends timeless elegance with everyday functionality.

Straight edge subway tile and a neutral color scheme was not going to cut it in this home. From top to bottom, each material has its own characteristics that play nicely together with simple cabinets that tie it altogether. The speckled counters flow into the playful backsplash with a wood-trimmed window that seems to add emphasis to the pattern of the tile. The contrast of the busy backsplash against the solid, honey cabinets brightens the space and gives it the character my clients felt it was missing. Next was to remedy the ample amount of open space in the center and little, uninterrupted countertop. When I first met with my clients, we sat at a small table off to the side of the kitchen. A table that was clearly used on the regular (the homework table), which meant, desperately needed.

Black hardware accents with contrast to the light wood. A main-floor bedroom- no crawling in and out of bed. The wallpaper was an owner request; what do you think of their choice? The bathroom has natural edge Hawaiian mango wood slabs spanning the length of the bump-out: the vanity countertop and the shelf beneath. The entire bump-out-side wall is tiled floor to ceiling with a diamond print pattern. The shower follows the high contrast trend with one white wall and one black wall in matching square pearl finish. The warmth of the terra cotta floor adds earthy warmth that gives life to the wood. 3 wall lights hang down illuminating the vanity, though durning the day, you likely wont need it with the natural light shining in from two perfect angled long windows. This Paradise model was way customized. The biggest alterations were to remove the loft altogether and have one consistent roofline throughout. We were able to make the kitchen windows a bit taller because there was no loft we had to stay below over the kitchen. This ATU was perfect for an extra tall person. After editing out a loft, we had these big interior walls to work with and although we always have the high-up octagon windows on the interior walls to keep thing light and the flow coming through, we took it a step (or should I say foot) further and made the french pocket doors extra tall. This also made the shower wall tile and shower head extra tall. We added another ceiling fan above the kitchen and when all of those awning windows are opened up, all the hot air goes right up and out.

My client Lindsey knew exactly what she wanted for the color scheme in this light and airy living room -- indigo with a splash of red and coral -- but the biggest challenge we had was the large space to fill and make cozy. My client has the eye of an artist for design and color, and she was able to express this with this amazing room we pulled together. We used a bold pattern in indigo and white for the window treatments along with light and airy braided natural woven shades. Altogether the window treatments along with the pillows, red lacquer coffee table, and accessories transformed this room into a warm and cozy living space. This Houston kitchen remodel turned an outdated bachelor pad into a contemporary dream fit for newlyweds. The client wanted a contemporary, somewhat commercial look, but also something homey with a comfy, family feel. And they couldn't go too contemporary, since the style of the home is so traditional. The clean, contemporary, white-black-and-grey color scheme is just the beginning of this transformation from the previous kitchen, The revamped 20-by-15-foot kitchen and adjoining dining area also features new stainless steel appliances by Maytag, lighting and furnishings by Restoration Hardware and countertops in white Carrara marble and Absolute Black honed granite. The paneled oak cabinets are now painted a crisp, bright white and finished off with polished nickel pulls. The center island is now a cool grey a few shades darker than the warm grey on the walls. On top of the grey on the new sheetrock, previously covered in a camel-colored textured paint, is Sherwin Williams' Faux Impressions sparkly "Striae Quartz Stone." Ho-hum 12-inch ceramic floor tiles with a western motif border have been replaced with grey tile "planks" resembling distressed wood. An oak-paneled flush-mount light fixture has given way to recessed lights and barn pendant lamps in oil rubbed bronze from Restoration Hardware. And the section housing clunky upper and lower banks of cabinets between the kitchen an dining area now has a sleek counter-turned-table with custom-milled legs. At first, the client wanted to open up that section altogether, but then realized they needed more counter space. The table - a continuation of the granite countertop - was the perfect solution. Plus, it offered space for extra seating. The black, high-back and low-back bar stools are also from Restoration Hardware - as is the new round chandelier and the dining table over which it hangs. Outdoor Homescapes of Houston also took out a wall between the kitchen and living room and remodeled the adjoining living room as well. A decorative cedar beam stained Minwax Jacobean now spans the ceiling where the wall once stood. The oak paneling and stairway railings in the living room, meanwhile, also got a coat of white paint and new window treatments and light fixtures from Restoration Hardware. Staining the top handrailing with the same Jacobean dark stain, however, boosted the new contemporary look even more. The outdoor living space also got a revamp, with a new patio ceiling also stained Jacobean and new outdoor furniture and outdoor area rug from Restoration Hardware. The furniture is from the Klismos collection, in weathered zinc, with Sunbrella fabric in the color "Smoke."

This project consisted of a full refurbishment of the ground floor of a seventies villa. After having lived there for around 30 years, the couple approached us to upgrade their family home to a more contemporary style that is better adapted to their current way of life. We did this by creating a more open plan living and dining space, as well as extending the new kitchen space out into the garden to create a better connection to the outdoors. The staircase was closed off on the ground floor level to conceal a much needed storage space and cloakroom area. In so doing, the extensively large entrance hall was given a cosier feel, making it altogether more welcoming. The previously stiff formal room, on the left-hand side of the entrance, was transformed into a secondary living space for the couples’ daughters and their friends. Lighter curtains and soft furnishings were introduced, while a pale blue colour on the walls offset the clients’ antique pieces with a fresher backdrop giving the room a more welcoming feel.

This outdated kitchen got a beautiful facelift with two-toned cabinets and a beautiful quartz that tied it altogether to achieve the look, feel and function these homeowners needed. They went with the mission door from the Kitchen Solvers Classic Collection line done in Pewter for the upper cabinets while the lowers were done in Gale Force. The new quartz countertop and backsplash were done in the Portrush color. This kitchen now brings the whole living space together for large gatherings or just a space for the family to hangout and share meals.

photo and landscape: Dave Demers - CYAN Horticulture As a long-time neighbor of CYAN Horticulture, the owner of this small south-facing garden gave us carte blanche on her project, as long as the severely damaged lawn was made to disappear altogether. A relax yet carefully studied meadow-like planting of bulbs and perennials, grasses and evergreen shrubs, now flank a narrow walkway. Maintenance is here kept to a minimum and seasons are wisely felt in this ever-changing arrangement.

When homeowners think ADA, they tend to get scared or even nervous, wanting their bathroom to be of course functional for everyday use but also be beautiful and magazine-worthy. Well, in this master bath, we did just that. Featuring a curbless shower creating a wet room, this shower creates easy access in and out of the shower for these homeowners. The shower design also incorporates a large bench to use if needed while showering. The grab bars in this space almost appear as if they are not there, blending right into the design of the other plumbing fixtures with their style and finish. Altogether, this master bath is a timeless space from its functional design to the stunning materials we used, from sleek grey stained cabinetry, classic granite countertops, elegant porcelain tile, and striking black matte fixtures.

This is a closer photo of the cabinet lacquer work. This finish is not done with oil-glaze, but with lacquer. Different layers of oil-tint are rubbed on using mineral spirits as a vehicle. Each layer is locked (or melted.....to be more accurate) in with another coat of lacquer. This one had just 2 layers of tint. Altogether, this finish took around 10 coats from start to finish.
