Faced with extensive water damage to their home, the Patel’s turned to Cantoni designer Andrea Petor to infuse new life into their family’s beloved weekend retreat in Montgomery, Texas. Balancing the client’s minimalist wants with their love of hosting, Andrea created a cohesive design to accommodate their frequent guests and large extended family. Beginning with the kitchen remodel, Andrea worked with the Patel’s to identify the best layout for the space, understanding it would be used regularly for entertaining. To maximize storage space, Andrea designed custom floor to ceiling cabinetry finished in high gloss white lacquer. She selected Miele optic white appliances to enhance the sleek design. Andrea had a custom dining table built into the island to provide ample seating and ensure the entire family could enjoy meals together. The kitchen’s monochromatic color palette was carried throughout the interiors allowing the home’s beautiful waterfront views to take center stage. Adding richness and texture to each room, Andrea selected sculptural, modern furnishings to complete the space and bring the Patel’s vision to life.

The Entry offers a spectacular first impression and sets the tone with a large skylight and an illuminated curved wall covered in a wavy pattern Porcelanosa tile. The chic entertaining kitchen was designed to celebrate a public lifestyle and plenty of entertaining. Celebrating height with a robust amount of interior architectural details, this dynamic kitchen still gives one that cozy feeling of home sweet home. The large “L” shaped island accommodates 7 for seating. Large pendants over the kitchen table and sink provide additional task lighting and whimsy. The Dekton “puzzle” countertop connection was designed to aid the transition between the two color countertops and is one of the homeowner’s favorite details. The built-in bistro table provides additional seating and flows easily into the Living Room. A curved wall in the Living Room showcases a contemporary linear fireplace and tv which is tucked away in a niche. Placing the fireplace and furniture arrangement at an angle allowed for more natural walkway areas that communicated with the exterior doors and the kitchen working areas. The dining room’s open plan is perfect for small groups and expands easily for larger events. Raising the ceiling created visual interest and bringing the pop of teal from the Kitchen cabinets ties the space together. A built-in buffet provides ample storage and display. The Sitting Room (also called the Piano room for its previous life as such) is adjacent to the Kitchen and allows for easy conversation between chef and guests. It captures the homeowner’s chic sense of style and joie de vivre.

In the dining room, we added a walnut bar with an antique gold toekick and antique gold hardware, along with an enclosed tall walnut cabinet for storage. The tall dining room cabinet also conceals a vertical steel structural beam, while providing valuable storage space. The original dining room cabinets had been whitewashed and they also featured many tiny drawers and damaged drawer glides that were no longer practical for storage. So, we removed them and built in new cabinets that look as if they have always been there. The new walnut bar features geometric wall tile that matches the kitchen backsplash. The walnut bar and dining cabinets breathe new life into the space and echo the tones of the wood walls and cabinets in the adjoining kitchen and living room. Finally, our design team finished the space with MCM furniture, art and accessories.

A Showstopping Island At the heart of this kitchen remodel is an expansive 9 ft. island, designed to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The island features a stunning White Pearl natural quartzite countertop that radiates elegance. With its unique veining and shimmering finish, this stone serves as a beautiful focal point and adds a touch of luxury to the space. A beverage cooler and dishwasher are tucked underneath, concealed from the view of the living area. Three 12” deep and 36” wide cabinets line the front of the island providing additional hidden storage. By eliminating an existing wall between the kitchen and dining room, and relocating the bar area to the dining room, we opened up the kitchen, providing all the space we needed to create a dreamy and functional layout. A new perimeter configuration promoted circulation while also making space for a large and functional island loaded with seating – a must for any family. Because an island that isn’t big enough for everyone (and a few more) is a recipe for disaster. The light white cabinetry is fresh and contrasts with the deeper tones in the wood flooring, creating a modern aesthetic that is elevated, yet approachable for everyday living. With better flow as the overarching goal, we made some structural changes too. To remove a bottleneck in the entryway, we angled one of the dining room walls to create more natural separation between rooms and facilitate ease of movement throughout the large space. At The Kitchen Studio, we believe a well-designed kitchen uses every square inch to the fullest. By starting from scratch, it was possible to rethink the entire kitchen layout and design the space according to how it is used, because the kitchen shouldn’t make it harder to feed the family. A new location for the existing range, flanked by a new column refrigerator and freezer on each side, worked to anchor the space. The very large and very spacious island (a dream island if we do say so ourselves) now houses the primary sink and provides ample space for food prep and family gathering. The new kitchen table and coordinating banquette seating provide a cozy nook for quick breakfasts before school or work, and evening homework sessions. Elegant gold details catch the natural light, elevating the aesthetic. The dining room was transformed into one of this client’s favorite spaces and we couldn’t agree more. We saw an opportunity to give the dining room a more distinguished identity by closing off the entrance from the foyer. The relocated wet bar enhances the sophisticated vibe of this gathering space, complete with beautiful antique mirror tiles and open shelving encased by moody built-in cabinets. Updated furnishings add warmth. A rich walnut table is paired with custom chairs in a muted coral fabric. The large, transitional chandelier grounds the room, pairing beautifully with the gold finishes prevalent in the faucet and cabinet hardware. Linen-inspired wallpaper and cream-toned window treatments add to the glamorous feel of this entertainment space. There is no way around it. The laundry room was cramped. The large washer and dryer blocked access to the sink and left little room for the space to serve its other essential function – as a mudroom. Because we reworked the kitchen layout to create more space overall, we could rethink the mudroom too – an essential for any busy family. The Mid-Levels of Hong Kong Island is one of the most prominent luxury residential areas. This project - Estoril Court in Mid-Levels Central is one of the rare heritage mansions in Hong Kong with a "thousand-year lease," comprising a total of 240 units. The young couple, with their two daughters, have settled here. For the wide experience husband, the most important aspect of a home is that it carries the "depth of love." His wife's preferences and the children's interests were frequently mentioned during this project. "I hope the design can break through conventions and avoid falling into the trap of popular but clichéd styles. Kyle and I resonate deeply on this point; we both pursue a 'more personal expression.' Family life should be relaxing, natural, and bringing joy to my family members." This residence features a square layout and excellent natural lighting, with a practicality rate of nearly 90%. However, its over 40-year-old structure poses numerous constraints on renovations. Adhering to the existing structure and the wisdom of geomancy, Karv One Design has re-examined the relationship among the landscape, windows, and functional flow within the home. They have integrated practicality, beauty, and self-expression into every corner, enhancing the happiness of living. Once stepping into the living room, you are greeted by Hong Kong's most spectacular vistas. The ever-changing scenery of Victoria Harbour, both day and night, the immense skyscrapers of different banks and commercial buildings and the panoramic views of the Peak are all within sight. The expansive dimensions of the living room are a response to the surrounding environment, providing ample space for family bonding and companionship, while also allowing the breathtaking skyline views to seamlessly integrate into daily life. Unlike traditional whole-house decoration, the design of Hong Kong homes emphasizes collage and customization. The minimalist aesthetic of the space corresponds to the luxurious craftsmanship and time costs involved. Elements such as natural stone, artistic paint, parquet flooring, wood veneer, and leather have all been meticulously coordinated in terms of color and proportion, while a significant amount of storage space has been cleverly concealed within the walls. The study room is deliberately positioned to one side of the living room, embracing the gentle stretch of sunlight. The arched iron partition, exuding a vintage flavor and traces of time, not only serves as a natural divider of space but also becomes a highlight of the interior decoration with its unique artistic form, creating a serene yet stylish atmosphere. It ensures privacy without compromising on openness, allowing the home owner to work in the study room while still keeping an eye on the children playing in the living room. Custom-made artisanal furniture offers a whole new expression of comfort and practicality to the space. The Giorgetti HUG armchair combines a sculptural sense of form with a flowing sense of shape. When natural light filters in, a rich artistic atmosphere permeates and grows within, making the home a place of tranquility and peace of mind. In the warm climate of Hong Kong, the fireplace rarely serves a practical purpose; it is designed to create a cozy atmosphere for family gatherings. During the winter Christmas season, it will be adorned with gifts wrapped in beautiful paper, serving as a nostalgic reminder of memories and expressions of love. The original open-plan layout of the master bedroom has been reconfigured and divided. The ultimate goal of the enclosed space is to provide comfort and ease of sleep. The pale green color is also carefully coordinated, focusing on creating a serene and pleasant atmosphere. The combination of "green," "wood," and "metal elements" is based on Feng Shui considerations, serving to stabilize and concentrate the energy flow. The children's room is simple yet cozy, where sunlight awakens the space and transparent glass windows bring in the ocean view. The palette of pale blue and white adds warmth and vitality to the space, inspiring children's boundless imagination about the unknown world and giving them the courage to see mountains, seas, and the world beyond. The unique, customized storage design is cleverly hidden within the space, blending handicraft and industrial design. Adorned with delicate textures such as rounded corners and layered elements, the craftsmanship is meticulous and exquisite, demonstrating exceptional ingenuity.
