KebonyM-S Pro Architects announce the completion of an indoor swimming pool in a state-of-the-art, single storey family home set in a picturesque location on the outskirts of Bratislava - one of Europe’s youngest capital cities. Kebony, a beautiful wood recommended by leading architects, was chosen to craft the ceiling of the swimming pool, which is designed to emulate rippling waves as well as for the terrace deck and structural beams.
Sustainability and a desire to recreate the close proximity often seen between wood and water in the natural environment were primary focuses in the design of this project. This led a requirement for a low maintenance wood, compatible humidity and with advanced durability, for the swimming pool ceiling. In addition, a high level of precision when cutting the wood was required in order to achieve the desired appearance of waves.
Supplied by Leading Market, Kebony was carefully selected for the pool ceiling, which consists of 490 lamellae of timber, due to its versatility, durability and environmental credentials. Kebony was also installed throughout the exterior of this property, both for the spacious outdoor terrace and the exterior and interior beams. One of the reasons to choose Kebony was the unified look of wood in all these different applications.
Developed in Norway, the patented Kebony technology uses an environmentally friendly process, which permanently enhances the properties of sustainable softwood with a bio-based liquid derived from agricultural crop waste. By polymerising the wood’s cell wall with furfuryl alcohol, the wood gains greatly improved durability and dimensional stability, giving it characteristics similar to those of tropical hardwood. In creating a wood with comparable properties to tropical hardwood that can be grown in a FSC certified, sustainably managed forest, the demand for tropical woods is reduced, allowing timber to once again be an important part of sustainable construction.
Tomáš Hubinský, Lead Architect at M-S Pro, commented: “From conception through to completion, the creation of this ceiling has been a real feat. Despite the challenges faced by such an intricate design, Kebony was the perfect material to convey our desired effect of waves rippling along the ceiling. We will continue to incorporate Kebony into our interior and exterior designs, with wood fast becoming the first choice material for all architects.”

O'Hanlon Kitchen & BathWe are pleased to announce that we were awarded the 2015 Best Kitchen Renovation by the Harrisburg Builders Association for our project completed in the summer of 2014.
Teresa & Duane Brunot wanted to update their small 1980's kitchen. With the help of our talented designer, Tracy West, and ideas found on Houzz.com, the Brunot's created their dream kitchen. Our "exceptional crew" was able to bring the design to life with traditional raised panel doors with rope molding and glaze. Countertop selections include Napoli, Rainforest, and Atlantis granite. A custom made mantle was added between the built-in bookshelves. A beautiful wet bar was added to also improve the living space.

O'Hanlon Kitchens took our ideas and made it happen. They took my very small 1980's kitchen and turned it into a beautiful open floor plan kitchen. Not only did they do my kitchen, they also replaced my 1980's brick fireplace with a custom mantle (from a picture I found on Houzz) and added built-ins on either side. And it didn't stop there. They also added a wet bar in the room that we like to call the Parlor. I couldn't be happier with my new home. I love coming home and cooking now. Rosenberg Kolb ArchitectsRosenberg Kolb Architects is proud to announce our renovation of a 1747 timber frame house on Nantucket Island, completed in 2011. The first historic renovation project in Nantucket to receive LEED Gold status. The project was given a Grand Award by Eco Home Magazine in July, 2011.
The project included:
Restructuring the foundations to align and stabilize the structure in addition to providing for a new insulated crawl space;
A 260 square foot addition for a kitchen, bath, and new entry;
New cedar shingles, roof shingles, and restored historic windows;
The house met the strict regulations of Nantucket's Historic District.
On the inside, LEED Gold certification was met through:
High R-value insulation and reduced air leakage;
High efficiency heating, air conditioning, plumbing fixtures, and appliances;
Low-emission paints and finishes as well as a clay wall finish;
Using reclaimed materials from the original house and other sites.

Acorn Cottage StyleThe double height front entry opens to the right and left into a dining room and the music room, seen here. The family was musical, and the room contained not only an excellent grand piano, but also other instruments played by the growing children.
The red armchair is from the set used in the kitchen around the handmade farm table, but only pulled into the kitchen as needed. The arms of the red, simple armchair extend a welcome. I love to put armchairs in entries because their arms always imply a hug to visitors! The antique demilune table was brought by the family from their home in London. The red colors in the Oriental rug immediately give a joyous announcement of welcome at the front door, while being immensely practical. The oriental rugs, if protected by good pads underneath, will last for centuries. The music room beyond echoes the red of the orientals, and the deep taupe on the entry walls is echoed in a rough raw silk texture on the relaxed Roman shades in the music room. Drapery would have been too repetitive of the dining room on the opposite side. A cream tufted leather Edwardian sofa carries the English theme into the music room beyond.

When my clients came to see me and announced their wonderful news that they were pregnant, but did not want to know the sex of the baby, I immediately decided to have the room in greys and yellows, we could always add accessories once the baby was born. This gorgeous, serene nursery for this very much Loved new baby would need to have all the necessary amenities and easily be converted into a regular bedroom. My Client had an image of elephants as the father grew up with bedtime stories of Babar.
The challenged was the size of the room only 94 sq. feet. And it would have to be transformed into a regular bedroom once the child was older. I was able to find high quality , beautiful classic furniture that also serves as double duty.
Once the child would be old enough the crib can transform into a queen bed, and the removable part of the changing table becomes a 6 drawer dresser. The paintable wall paper color can be changed as well as all accessories.
I believe in good quality furniture that can be passed down or converted. Yes it is more expensive but in the long run, classic pieces such as these can last a life time.

Decorating Den Interiors- Clark Team DesignsThis outdoor space featured impressive architectural bones, anchored by a fireplace that naturally demanded attention as the primary focal point. However, the area lacked the essential furnishings, warmth, and cohesion required to function as a truly comfortable gathering spot. Our design goal was to create a functional seating arrangement for six while establishing a welcoming, inviting atmosphere through layered textures and intentional accessories.
A unique aspect of this project was the client’s firm preference for metal outdoor furniture, which they preferred to source locally. We embraced this as a collaborative opportunity; I provided expert guidance on furniture selection and precise sizing to ensure the layout flowed exactly as envisioned, blending their choices seamlessly into the design.
To ground the seating arrangement and soften the surrounding hard surfaces, we selected an outdoor rug in warm brown and gold tones. This addition introduced immediate visual warmth and clearly defined the conversation area. Finally, we incorporated accent pillows in soft cream and rich indigo blue to provide a sophisticated contrast that intentionally echoes the home's surroundings.

Green Mountain BuildersThis beautiful home in one of Bonita Springs’ premier golf and country club communities underwent a spectacular makeover by Green Mountain Builders. Green Mountain Builders has just announced the completion of an extensive remodeling of a luxury home in Pelican Landing, Bonita Springs, Florida. The transitional-inspired style makeover provides transformed outdoor and indoor living areas. The remodel focused on altering the floor plan resulting in a dramatic open concept and modifying the wall between the living room and family room. Additional floor plan changes included converting the dining room into a spacious office by closing in the wall to the dining room and adding a set of French Doors for access.

Hayward Santa Barbara Design ShowroomThis kitchen remodel was part of a major home remodel on five acres in the ranch country along California’s Central Coast. The overall architecture and interior design style of the home, and the kitchen in particular, is “modern farmhouse” with an intentional leaning toward modern, and striving further for “inspired.” With spectacular views of horses and vineyards just outside the windows, and a very open floor plan, the goal was to create a strikingly attractive and highly functional entertaining space that still allowed the views to be center stage. Patio LaneLocated in the heart of Downtown St. Petersburg, the Vinoy Renaissance Resort & Golf Club is one of the city's most iconic hotels. This downtown gem can easily be distinguished by its salmon color and Mediterranean Revival style architecture. Situated right on the bay, this luxury resort is just a short walk from all of the area’s major attractions such as the Dali Museum, Beach Drive, and the Mahaffey Theater.
The Vinoy was constructed in 1925 and has been through a long history of renovations and construction within its lifetime. Efforts are constantly being made to preserve the hotel’s historic past while still providing guests with a unique, comfortable, and luxurious experience. With that being said, it was recently announced that the hotel will undergo a three-year $50 million plan to improve several aspects of the property.
Patio Lane took part in these upgrades by designing and producing custom cushions for two locations on the property: the veranda and smoking area seating. We fabricated a total of 187 custom cushions with 13 different configurations for the hotel: dining chair seat, lounge chair, love seat, center sectional, end sectionals, as well as ottomans. Patio Lane directly competed with the original furniture and cushion manufacturer for this project. However, being an essential part of St. Petersburg, the resort appreciated a local vendor with strong initiative to earn their business.
As far as the project requirements, the Vinoy needed something that will hold up through the harsh sun and storms of Central Florida. Typically, cushions in a commercial setting will last a few years depending on the human traffic. For a luxury hotel, such as the Vinoy, these cushions should have been replaced within 3 years.
To ensure that they would have high performing seating for their guests, they chose cushions fabricated with Sunbrella Rain performance fabric. This fabric is 100% waterproof and specifically made for outdoor spaces that endure heavy rainfall or any kind of moisture. Sunbrella Rain eliminates drying time after wet weather. Resort staff can simply wipe the cushions down and their guests are ready to continue lounging and relaxing.
The Vinoy’s original cushions used a polyurethane foam that had since lost its strength and was no longer providing a comfortable seat. (When we initially surveyed the Vinoy, we witnessed many customers doubling up on cushions to place behind their backs!) Numerous cushions had ripped at the seams and the zippers were non-functional. Dry-fast foam, the preferred option for cushions fabricated with Sunbrella Rain, was the perfect choice with the 4 in. thick seats & 5 in. thick backs because it will provide a firm seat and support for years to come.
