Our next project gave us an amazing opportunity to work with a delightful couple who wanted to breathe new life into their outdated and deteriorated 2-tier wooden deck. Upon assessing the space as well as the wants and needs of our clients, Project Manager, EJ Bonacker, knew it was evident that there was immense potential for improvement. He proposed to shift the deck to a single level and incorporate a Trex RainEscape system. This ingenious addition ensured the area below the deck would remain dry and usable no matter the weather conditions and would also maximize space for entertaining friends and family. Low maintenance TimberTech decking and Titan railings were used which will allow our clients to spend more time enjoying the deck rather than maintaining it. While the older deck did have some lighting, we proposed a comprehensive lighting upgrade which included lights around the perimeter as well as well-lit stairs leading to the ground level which enhanced not only the aesthetics but also the safety during evening gatherings. One of our favorite pieces of this project was designing a special nook for the grill as to not encroach on the primary entertainment area. Our clients were ecstatic we were able to complete their project just in time for the Fourth of July celebrations so they could share laughter, delicious food and create beautiful memories with their neighbors, kids and grandkids. This project’s owner originally contacted Sunspace because they needed to replace an outdated, leaking sunroom on their North Hampton, New Hampshire property. The aging sunroom was set on a fieldstone foundation that was beginning to show signs of wear in the uppermost layer. The client’s vision involved repurposing the ten foot by ten foot area taken up by the original sunroom structure in order to create the perfect space for a new home office. Sunspace Design stepped in to help make that vision a reality. We began the design process by carefully assessing what the client hoped to achieve. Working together, we soon realized that a glass conservatory would be the perfect replacement. Our custom conservatory design would allow great natural light into the home while providing structure for the desired office space. Because the client’s beautiful home featured a truly unique style, the principal challenge we faced was ensuring that the new conservatory would seamlessly blend with the surrounding architectural elements on the interior and exterior. We utilized large, Marvin casement windows and a hip design for the glass roof. The interior of the home featured an abundance of wood, so the conservatory design featured a wood interior stained to match. The end result of this collaborative process was a beautiful conservatory featured at the front of the client’s home. The new space authentically matches the original construction, the leaky sunroom is no longer a problem, and our client was left with a home office space that’s bright and airy. The large casements provide a great view of the exterior landscape and let in incredible levels of natural light. And because the space was outfitted with energy efficient glass, spray foam insulation, and radiant heating, this conservatory is a true four season glass space that our client will be able to enjoy throughout the year.

Using low and maintenance-free materials, these two Norton, MA deck renovation projects will have lasting impact. Our clients hired us to create a space to be used for entertaining and relaxation. We built a 12×12 deck onto their brand-new above ground pool. As premier deck contractors, we designed and built this beautiful, modern and maintenance free deck using AZEK PVC decking. AZEK has a natural wood look and is engineered to last longer than alternative materials like pressure-treated wood. Lead Designer, Jason Hoffman, worked with the Norton, MA homeowners through the Design phase and produced a simple, yet effective and classic design. We partnered with Techno Metal Post, installing Helical Piers for the deck’s foundation. We’re fans of these steel metal posts because of their low footprint on the job. The rapid installation allows us to build on them immediately rather than waiting for concrete to dry. Our team of professionals assess each job to determine the best materials and practices that allow for a seamless, safe and secure building. In addition to the new pool deck, we also renovated the homeowner’s existing rear deck off the back of the 2nd story of their home. The deck board and railing were in need of repair although the foundation itself was in good shape. We removed the pressure treated decking and rails and facelifted the existing space with the same AZEK PVC decking and railings as the pool deck to create a cohesive backyard look. We also installed composite decking with riser boards on the stairs with a new rail system.

The Owners of this luxurious waterfront estate acquired this property after the previous owners defaulted on their loan and stopped construction. We were initially engaged to inspect and assess the structural integrity of the building shell and work with a geo-technical engineer to evaluate the condition of the site’s soil. Tests determined that the site’s previous use as a sawmill and Native American fishing ground rendered the soil unfit for construction activity. In response to the lack of soil bearing capacity, our solution employs expansive footings supported by hundreds of piles throughout the entire project site. After completing our inspection of the structure, we were engaged to completely redesigned this home to accommodate our clients’ growing family and extensive art collection. Stylistically, this highly detailed structure borrows from the grand bungalows of the Greene brothers in Pasadena, California while employing sophisticated climate, lighting, AV and security systems. To ensure our clients’ art collection was properly displayed and protected, we worked with specialists from the Seattle Art Museum to develop appropriate lighting and climate control systems. Finally, we engaged the best craftsman we know – general contractor, interior designer, landscape architect, cabinet maker, blacksmith, custom woodworker and stone mason – to execute what ultimately became our clients’ very personal and unique statement for their home.
