This urban infill project juxtaposes a tall, slender curved circulation space against a rectangular living space. The tall curved metal wall was a result of bulk plane restrictions and the need to provide privacy from the public decks of the adjacent three story triplex. This element becomes the focus of the residence both visually and experientially. It acts as sun catcher that brings light down through the house from morning until early afternoon. At night it becomes a glowing, welcoming sail for visitors.

The residence received a full gut renovation to create a modern coastal retreat vacation home. This was achieved by using a neutral color pallet of sands and blues with organic accents juxtaposed with custom furniture’s clean lines and soft textures.

This is an example of a large contemporary partial sun backyard water fountain landscape in San Francisco for summer.

A lovely yard that started as a long bowling alley of lawn. We wanted to create a more human scale in the lounge area without building too many visual barriers. The overall effect is contemporary, but it is met with hints of woodland to help maintain a relaxed atmosphere.

The patio is paved with full range bluestone that is bordered by natural clay bricks. The bricks also form an inlaid pattern, helping to define the separate spaces within the patio. Renn Kuhnen Photography
