The clients also needed the kitchen to work hard for their lifestyle, with a commercial-size refrigerator and freezer, generous prep space, and room to gather. The challenge was to bring purpose and polish to a space that didn’t quite feel like it belonged. The result is a kitchen that’s not only highly functional but finally feels like part of the home. This expansive kitchen was done by Bilotta senior designer in collaboration with Nancy Epstein, founder and CEO of Artistic Tile, for Nancy’s son and daughter-in-law’s home. Frameless Rutt Regency cabinetry is featured in two different finishes: linen white paint on the perimeter and stained walnut on the island. Almost all surfaces are Calacatta Gold marble but in a variety of formats and finishes, obviously all by Artistic Tile. The backsplash, including the dramatic arched wall the houses the range and hood, features elongated brick tiles with a honed finish. The underside of the arch is lined with polished mosaics and the countertops are 2” thick slabs, polished. The flooring is the only surface in a different material – for that they used Artistic Tile’s “Vestige Ash”, a limestone with a brushed finish in a chevron pattern that creates texture and really shows the stone’s veining. In an article in Traditional Home, written by Amy Elbert, Nancy commented, “Everything has some weight, some girth to it. A common design mistake is making things too skinny. You want to feel the tile’s majesty and its beauty.” Rita added, “We always played with a delicate balance between contemporary and traditional elements.” The two stainless steel undermount sinks are Franke with Dornbracht faucets. There are various different work zones making it also a very functional space, aside from being sophisticated and elegant overall. There is the cooking area with the 36” range and custom hood on one wall; the island holds the main sink and a dishwasher; another wall houses the full height, 36” wide stainless steel refrigerator and freezer; and the sink wall (with a beautiful view to the backyard) has another dishwasher as well as refrigerator drawers. The woodland setting of Innovation House is the perfect backdrop to this tailored and spacious master retreat. A wall full of windows looks out onto the property’s babbling creek and tall Georgia pines. When natural light isn’t filling the space, strategically placed can lights on the room’s 12 foot high layered soffits cast the perfect glow onto the room’s sleek pieces. With the European sophistication of a 5-star resort, the room is outfitted with an off white upholstered head board flanked by long, stone topped end tables and iron lamps. Graphic single-panel drapery panels hang on the outside of the windows to add further visual interest and weight to the bed wall. A casual sitting area complete with matching upholstered ottomans and a handmade steel and wood coffee table provides another area for relaxation in this master retreat. The right side of the master bedroom leads into the gracious, spa-like ensuite bathroom and out onto the private screened porch where homeowners can enjoys their coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening while listening to the creek. The definitive idea behind this project was to create a modest country house that was traditional in outward appearance yet minimalist from within. The harmonious scale, thick wall massing and the attention to architectural detail are reminiscent of the enduring quality and beauty of European homes built long ago. It features a custom-built Spanish Colonial- inspired house that is characterized by an L-plan, low-pitched mission clay tile roofs, exposed wood rafter tails, broad expanses of thick white-washed stucco walls with recessed-in French patio doors and casement windows; and surrounded by native California oaks, boxwood hedges, French lavender, Mexican bush sage, and rosemary that are often found in Mediterranean landscapes. An emphasis was placed on visually experiencing the weight of the exposed ceiling timbers and the thick wall massing between the light, airy spaces. A simple and elegant material palette, which consists of white plastered walls, timber beams, wide plank white oak floors, and pale travertine used for wash basins and bath tile flooring, was chosen to articulate the fine balance between clean, simple lines and Old World touches.

DOWNLOAD NOW   This large kitchen had a lot going for it in terms of the large open space and work triangle, however the honey oak cabinets and laminate countertops left a lot to be desired. The small range was replaced with a large pro-style cooktop. Space from an existing pantry was reworked to allow for the addition of double ovens, refrigerator and butler pantry type storage. A new larger window was added and relocated to allow for better placement of the sink, and a bar area was redesigned into a more functional and visually pleasing area. This young family wanted a unique design that was not a “cookie cutter” space. To accomplish this, Klimala designed a large custom hood flanked by large storage cabinets. The hood area is a steel gray repeating the color of the island giving each of those areas equal weight and a sense of balance. The large island that houses storage and a microwave drawer is topped with a walnut butcher block. The walnut is repeated at the mantle hood and in some shallow shelving for spice storage near the cooktop. Hardworking gray quartz countertops were chosen for the rest of the space and gray limestone brick adds some texture to the backsplash area. The unique circular glass mosaic tile at the cooktop provides a stunning focal point. Globe shaped pendants repeat the circle theme above the island. Million Dollar Listing’s celebrity broker Ryan Serhant reached out to Decor Aid to stage a luxurious Brooklyn condo development. The only caveat was that our interior designers had 48 hours to come up with the design, concept, and source all the furniture. Always up for a challenge, we partnered with Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams to create this contemporary gem. Staying true to their contemporary vision, our interior decorators sourced all pieces through MGBW. Starting in the living room, we placed the Gunner Sofa, a piece that offers clean-lined living. The thin arms and slanted profile emphasize the modern elegance of the home. Through the use of various contemporary patterns and textures we were able to avoid the one-dimensional ambiance, and instead, the apartment’s living room feels detailed and thought out, without making anyone who enters overcrowded with home decor. The Melrose cocktail table was sourced for its sleek, stainless steel and glass design that contrasts with more substantial pieces in the space, while also complementing the contemporary style. The glass design gives the illusion that this table takes up less space, giving the living room design a light and airy feel all around. The living space transformed into something out of a decor catalog with just the right amount of personality, creating a room that follows through with our starting design, yet functional for everyday use. After the living room area, we set our eyes on designing the master bedroom. Our interior decorators were immediately drawn to the Celina Floating Rail Bed, it’s opulent nailhead trim, and dramatic design brings fresh sophistication to the bedroom design, while also standing out as a timeless piece that can complement various trends or styles that might be added later on to the bedroom decoration. We sourced the Roland Table Lamp to add texture, with its elaborate ribbed design, that compliments the air of masculinity the Carmen Leather Ottoman add while contrasting with the light, sleeker pieces. This difference in weight left us with a bedroom decoration that lives up to the trending modern standards, yet a space that is timeless and stylish no matter the decor trends. Once we finished and the project was completed, our senior designers took a step back and took in all of their hard labor. Decor Aid was able to make this newly built blank space and design it into a modern wonder small brooklyn apartment. The MGBW furnishings were all hand-picked to keep an even balance of complementing and contrasting contemporary pieces, which was one of our more critical apartment decorating ideas. The apartment home decor brings to life this modern concept in a way that isn’t overbearing and shows off their style making the space in every sense an accurate reflection of a chic contemporary style.
