We really enjoyed consulting and designing this basement project design and I’m very pleased with how it turned out! We did a complimenting color scheme between the wall and base cabinets by using a grey for the base and white for the wall. We did black handle pulls for all the cabinets to bring the two colors together. We went with a white oak style for the floor to really bring the light through the entire basement. This helps carry the light through the space which is always a good idea when you don’t have many windows to play with. For the backsplash we chose a glossy textured/wavy subway tile to add some depth and texture to the kitchens character.I really enjoyed consulting this basement project design and I’m very pleased with how it turned out! This couple contacted me before their little bundle of joy arrived to design their nursery. We started with what used to be a very pink little girl’s room, decorated by the previous owners, and turned it into a contemporary cozy space for their newborn. The carpet flooring was replaced with hardwood maple, a modern baseboard replaced the traditional looking ones, new closet doors with a maple frame and frosted glass inserts replaced the standard white doors and recessed lighting was added to brighten up the once dark room. The couple didn’t want the standard pink or blue nursery, but opted for a more gender neutral and modern color palette. So using my favorite base – grey – we added some foxy orange pops! The maple and grey crib and dresser are Oeuf, the orange glider came from Room and Board, the windows were covered by Room and Board as well and most of the accessories and decor was ordered on Etsy.

It’s been said that when you dream about a house, the basement represents your subconscious level. Perhaps that was true in the past, when basements were often neglected. But in most of today’s new builds and remodels, lower levels are becoming valuable living spaces. If you’re looking at building or renovating, opening up that lower level with sufficient light can add square footage and value to your home.
In addition, having access to bright indoor areas can help combat cabin fever, which peaks in late winter. Looking at the photos here, you’d never know what you’re seeing is a lower level. That’s because a smart builder knew that bringing natural light into the space was key.
Our job, in furnishing the space, was to make the most of that light. The off-white walls and light grey carpet provide a good base.
A grey sectional sofa with clean, modern lines easily fits into the spacious room. It’s an ideal piece to encourage people to spend time together. The strong, forgiving linen resists staining, and like a blank canvas this true neutral allows for accessorizing with various throws and pillows depending on the season.
The cream-colored throw echoes the light colors in the space, while the nubby pillow adds a textured contrast.

In this refined yet playful home for a family of six, every room invites connection, creativity, and daily living, with thoughtfully integrated spaces for building, gathering, and everyday living. In this space, tailored cabinetry showcases curated Lego collections, balanced by sculptural lighting and a vibrant, graphic rug. Clean-lined furnishings and soft neutrals create a refined backdrop for creativity.
