Wabi-sabi is a Japanese philosophy which is based on the belief that everything imperfect is beautiful: asymmetry, irregularity, and transience. All these things share a certain roughness, simplicity, and uniqueness that makes them beautiful, despite their imperfect shape and texture.

Prior to being renovated, the existing rooms of this home were compartmentalized into claustrophobic sections, barely serving their individual functions in relative isolation. With a belief that utility need not exist independent of comfort, we looked to open up and expand the kitchen space into an existing porch. We feel this answered the client's call for a combined kitchen and living space while improving on all functional elements of the design. Throughout the project we would keep our focus on the goal of bringing the home into the modern age, without sacrificing the client's desire for a comfortable, family friendly feel. These wise clients know that when they take good care of themselves, it benefits everyone else in the family. This Master bedroom exemplifies their belief. Enveloped in amethyst, their Bedroom is a welcoming, soft place to land at the end of the day. Waking up and feeling the plush white carpet under foot, completes the experience. The body and spirit is nourished in this room. That's just what a bedroom is supposed to do. Amen.

The Poul Henningsen designed PH Bow Piano is a radical departure from the expectation of how a wooden-cased piano should be presented. It was Poul Henningsen’s innate belief that when designing a piece of furniture form should always follow function and that the practical performance of his creation was of paramount importance. PH also believed that it was possible to redesign many everyday objects and pieces of furniture in such away that not only would they function better but they would also be more aesthetically pleasing. The PH Bow Piano is no exception to this philosophy.

The new owners opted to replace the aging, historically inappropriate vinyl siding on this Wicker Park single family home with double-dipped McNear “Limehouse" thin brick. Believe it or not, there's a red brick under those two coats of limewash! Initially, these easy-going homeowners sought out a pure white brick, but ended up using this rustic alternative instead. Notes of the red brick subtly peek through the lime, giving the residence an old world flavor. These bricks were attached using Glen Gery ThinTech panels, and will be sealed soon to protect the wash and allow for easy maintenance. Contrary to popular belief, siding is actually more expensive to take care of over time than masonry! A special shoutout goes to woman-owned business D. Jones Construction, whose interest in learning all about this unique product before install was welcomed and appreciated!

A redesign project although challenging, when looked at with a keen eye, provides opportunities which can be developed into key design elements.This project was entirely driven by this belief of doing well within given constraints & creating an ambience which speaks of sophistication & rich user experience. Project motive was to upgrade & subsequently up sell an already existing saloon in Al Ain, UAE; into a wellness center which caters to saloon services as well as massage facilities. The existing unit was compartmentalised & the walls prevented light from travelling to all areas of the space. .Some walls were demolished to create an open, well lit & free flowing space . Thus originated a module which could be scaled,repeated & used as a derivative rendering interesting identity to the space.
