This typical tract home bathroom was converted into a soothing home spa, inspired by the beauty of the outdoors. The metaphor of Nature (waterfall, pebbles, natural wood tone) was employed throughout to create the feel of being outside. This project features a gorgeous home on a secluded street in Lytton Park, Toronto. Having lived in the home for about 10 yrs. my clients had under & over used rooms and so our remit was to make the main floor and laundry room more functional and more suitable for the family and flow in the house. This was obtained firstly by opening up the entrance foyer. We pushed the closet back into the adjacent room and took down the archway separating the spaces. We increased the size of the hall closet and laid the same herringbone floor throughout. By adding a partially glazed door to the end of the foyer we were able to steal some light back into this once dark area. The white glass beaded chandelier is an understated show-stopper! The original dining room was converted to a home office / music room. It’s a beautiful serene space and the light – there are windows on three walls in this room – provides a wonderful glow. This room is all about the details – layers of subtle patterns and textures are blended with metallics and woods. The kitchen eat-in area was transformed to a covetable bistro. We maxed out the seating by building a custom banquette and adding stunning wicker chairs that have a beautiful detail on the back. We also maxed out the storage by adding drawers beneath the seating and incorporating a broom / storage closet at the far end of the banquette. The grass-cloth herringbone paper and the brass sconces provide a lovely backdrop. The laundry room was reconfigured with lots of functional storage and wraparound countertops. Robeson Design :-) Family of 4 contacted us after following us on YouTube. Their inquiry... Have you ever designed a home 20' underground? WHAT??? Did you say "Underground" ? Heres how we did it... (Tiny 8' round Kitchen) Used a reflective mirror tile to cover the wall above the sink and prep area providing light, reflection and an illusion of space. Light grey paint with dark walnut stained woodwork provided a visually appealing contrast. Minimalist low profile chrome and stainless appliances and plumbing fixtures. Ran the flooring: striped carpet and vinyl flooring, horizontally to emphasize the width. (Curved walls, floor and ceiling) Design custom furniture and built-in pieces with rounded sides to fit the tube perfectly. Furniture pieces convert for multiple uses... we call it our "Transformer Furniture" (Limited storage space available) Hidden storage in, below, beneath, above and atop without you even knowing it :-) Its functional AND fashionable all at the same time. (No Windows) Commissioned a hand painted mural in selected areas adding color, texture, visual interest and most important an illusion of perspective that takes your eye beyond the 8' steel walls. (No Way out!) Heck, Project Airstream turned out so Amazing... why would you ever want to leave :-)

- Designer + Contractor: The Jack + Mare | design & build 1.) Demo, design and rebuild kitchen and dining room. 2.) New Paint, new flooring and/or refinish for the entire 1st floor. The Jack + Mare designed and built this custom kitchen and dining remodel for a family in Portland's Sellwood Westmoreland Neighborhood. The wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed to create an inviting and flowing space with custom details in all directions. The custom maple dining table was locally milled and crafted from a tree that had previously fallen in Portland's Laurelhurst neighborhood; and the built-in L-shaped maple banquette provides unique comfortable seating with drawer storage beneath. The integrated kitchen and dining room has become the social hub of the house – the table can comfortably sit up to 10 people! Being that the kitchen is visible from the dining room, the refrigerator and dishwasher are hidden behind cabinet door fronts that seamlessly tie-in with the surrounding cabinetry creating a warm and inviting space. The end result is a highly functional kitchen for the chef and a comfortable and practical space for family and friends. Details: custom cabinets (designed by The J+M) with shaker door fronts, a baker's pantry, built-in banquette with integrated storage, custom local silver maple table, solid oak flooring to match original 1925 flooring, white ceramic tile backsplash, new lighting plan featuring a Cedar + Moss pendant, all L.E.D. can lights, Carrara marble countertops, new larger windows to bring in more natural light and new trim. A pair of world travelers with a deep love of Japan asked JMMDS to design a Japanese-inspired landscape that would complement the contemporary renovation of their home in Edinburgh, Scotland. JMMDS created a plan that included a handsome cut-stone patio, meandering stepping stone paths, sweeping bed lines, stony mounds, a grassy pool of space, and swaths of elegant plantings. JMMDS was on site during the installation to craft the mounds and place the plants and stones. Julie Moir Messervy set out the ancient pieces of gneiss from Scotland’s Isle of Lewis. With the planting design, JMMDS sought to evoke the feeling of a traditional Japanese garden using locally suitable plants. The designers and clients visited nurseries in search of distinctive plant specimens, including cloud-pruned hollies, craggy pines, Japanese maples of varied color and habit, and a particularly notable Japanese snowbell tree. Beneath these, they laid drifts of sedges, hellebores, European gingers, ferns, and Solomon’s Seal. Evergreen azaleas, juniper, rhododendrons, and hebe were clustered around the lawn. JMMDS placed bamboos within root-controlled patio beds and planted mondo grass, sedums, and mosses among the stepping stones. This South Texas ranch home utilizes the flexibility of separate building volumes and a vast, open site to create the ideal country retreat. The arrangement of the three simple volumes recalls and reinterprets the historic building forms of the Texas plains, while meeting the clients’ programmatic requests for highly efficient spaces, both public and private. The dogrun pavilion, which connects the Great Room and Master Suite beneath a delicate steel-truss roof, provides the perfect place to gather in the shade, entertain guests, and pick up the comfortable southeast breezes. This homeowner’s master bathroom was a very popular style during the 90’s. Although, white can make a space feel larger, the bathroom was bland and needed an update. Soft neutral walls, marble tile throughout and shaker style Waypoint Cabinets, make this elegant bathroom a perfect place to wake up in the morning and unwind at night. There are many features in this bathroom that we love. The veining pattern of the beautiful White Carrara marble tops and tub deck added just the right amount of contrast to this bathroom. Honed Bianco Perla Marble tiles were used in the shower and on the floor. The frameless shower reveals the finer details of this design with a basket weave tile accent band on the shower back wall, basket weave tile in the niche and on the shower floor. Bullnose tile was used to frame the window instead of wood trim and was also used inside the niche. Expansive framed mirrors enlarge the room and reflect back the window light and the beauty of the shower and tub. Heated floor mats beneath the tiles with programmable thermostat are unseen but will be highly appreciated by this home owner. No more walking on cold tiles! The transformation of this bathroom is luxurious! White and Grey was used in this space which resulted in a crisp, elegant updated look that will remain in style for years to come.
