The Casa Barco de Hormigon is a totally different design than what is presented in current architecture. Inspired by the moorings, sailing and cruising environment, this majestic space is completely built of concrete with nautical lines never seen in modern architectural construction, The interior of the project boasts concrete overhangs, decorative wall details that surprise and invite observation of each space to discover that each detail is designed to appreciate.
The design uses sunlight and moonlight to form geometric figures that move throughout the interior, changing the sensations according to the time of day and night, achieving design movements at different times. This natural light plays with the curved partitions and impressive staircase to make one experience every design detail with every step.
With this project, one will surely experience different environmental changes at varying moments, For instance, the jacuzzi with waterfall integrates the river elevation surrounded by 12 foot palm trees situated inside the home, overlooking the moorings and cruises, Also, an unprecedented fire table for moments in the afternoon or winters outside add to the creative design. By integrating the views of the river from each and every one of its vantage points, , this makes this design creative and innovative with maximum expression.

The family that owns this home is prone to travel. Whether to a National Monument or the forests of Alaska the wayward souls that dwell within these walls know how to appreciate the great outdoors. Throughout the week they might need to rest and recoup between adventures, preferably in a low-maintenance environment. The need for space was imperative; balancing storage, relaxation and entertaining was top of mind when designing. As frequent entertainers, they got the room to regale and the room to relax. Large family rooms flank the front entryway; a large open great room with vaulted ceiling and central fireplace creates an informal and loose setting for family and friends to gather. Either flooded with natural light, from the full-size Milgard windows, or warmly lit by fire and the ornate wrought iron chandelier, a cozy environment is not hard to conjure up. If some privacy is sought, the second family room across the foyer is the perfect place. This smaller family room features a knotty alder french door inlaid with seedy baroque glass. In this intimate setting a small group can get together for any number of conversations or, if necessary, enjoy a quiet setting for a movie or show.

THE LOCATION AND ARCHITECTURE
The plot of land where the Hillside Haven project was built played a crucial role in the design of the house. The location was carefully selected to take advantage of the stunning natural beauty of the Cyprus mountains, with the orientation of the house being optimized to maximize sunlight and take in the breathtaking mountain views.
The topography of the site also provided ample opportunities for arranging outdoor living spaces, such as terraces, which were combined with the picturesque natural surroundings to create a seamless connection between the house and its environment.
THE INTERIOR DESIGN
The interior of the Hillside Haven project was designed with both practicality and luxury in mind. The house features four bedrooms and two separate bathrooms on the first floor, a spacious hall, and a master bedroom with a wardrobe, an additional bedroom, and a dressing room on the second floor. The interior spaces are characterized by a minimalist design, with an emphasis on clean lines and open spaces that maximize natural light.
THE EXTERIOR DESIGN
Featuring a modern and sophisticated facade that is both elegant and dynamic. The front of the house is characterized by a timber screening that provides both privacy and a sense of warmth and texture. Meanwhile, the rear facade features a dynamic composition of vertical wooden laths that create a striking visual effect. The carefully selected materials for the exterior include natural wood color for vertical and horizontal cladding slats, graphite-colored zinc roofing, natural wooden hemmed roof, pigmented concrete in white color, and natural stone veneer. The result is a house that is both beautiful and durable, capable of withstanding the harsh weather conditions of the Cyprus mountains.

HKB Interior DesignWhile you can certainly use any paint in your bathroom, we highly recommend going with a matte finish designed for high-humidity environments. Specialty high-humidity paints are specifically designed to last longer in those environments while also being easily cleaned and mildew resistant. In our professional opinion, it's the only way to go! Plus, just look at how beautiful that matte is against the stone and tile.

The DeVance Team has collaborated with various synergistic partners in order to create a one-of-a-kind ‘Experience Center’ in the North Dallas corridor. This Electronic Lifestyle facility has quickly become a savvy social and entertaining environment; set up to demonstrate just a few things one can do in their home or office to enhance their quality of life through the use of technology. Guests are dazzled by a plethora of custom electronic selections, incorporated into the latest technology in a cozy, yet high-end residential-style environment. The entire space is home to dozens of custom paintings by local artists and master-crafted wood works and built in cabinetry. The reception area is complimented with a 55” custom designed Art Screen TV with retractable art that rolls up into a motorized casing to reveal a 4K TV screen. The additional spaces show beautifully, with a modern family room, a sophisticated entertainment lounge, and fully functional, stocked wet bar. An acoustically treated 2-Channel listening room houses the finest in McIntosh audio equipment complete with a turntable. The Brooklyn StudioThis residence was a complete gut renovation of a 4-story row house in Park Slope, and included a new rear extension and penthouse addition. The owners wished to create a warm, family home using a modern language that would act as a clean canvas to feature rich textiles and items from their world travels. As with most Brooklyn row houses, the existing house suffered from a lack of natural light and connection to exterior spaces, an issue that Principal Brendan Coburn is acutely aware of from his experience re-imagining historic structures in the New York area. The resulting architecture is designed around moments featuring natural light and views to the exterior, of both the private garden and the sky, throughout the house, and a stripped-down language of detailing and finishes allows for the concept of the modern-natural to shine.
Upon entering the home, the kitchen and dining space draw you in with views beyond through the large glazed opening at the rear of the house. An extension was built to allow for a large sunken living room that provides a family gathering space connected to the kitchen and dining room, but remains distinctly separate, with a strong visual connection to the rear garden. The open sculptural stair tower was designed to function like that of a traditional row house stair, but with a smaller footprint. By extending it up past the original roof level into the new penthouse, the stair becomes an atmospheric shaft for the spaces surrounding the core. All types of weather – sunshine, rain, lightning, can be sensed throughout the home through this unifying vertical environment. The stair space also strives to foster family communication, making open living spaces visible between floors. At the upper-most level, a free-form bench sits suspended over the stair, just by the new roof deck, which provides at-ease entertaining. Oak was used throughout the home as a unifying material element. As one travels upwards within the house, the oak finishes are bleached to further degrees as a nod to how light enters the home.
The owners worked with CWB to add their own personality to the project. The meter of a white oak and blackened steel stair screen was designed by the family to read “I love you” in Morse Code, and tile was selected throughout to reference places that hold special significance to the family. To support the owners’ comfort, the architectural design engages passive house technologies to reduce energy use, while increasing air quality within the home – a strategy which aims to respect the environment while providing a refuge from the harsh elements of urban living.

The project blended NILES’ technical execution with Ian’s hands-on finishing work, resulting in a studio where every corner has intention and every system supports a seamless, plug-and-play workflow.
The structure began as a barn-style two-car garage with a second floor. After exploring several layouts and engineering options, we landed on a design that leveraged the high ceilings and existing footprint to create a dynamic and spacious acoustic environment. The Control Room is fully isolated from the rest of the building with sound-reducing wall systems, a full soft-ceiling bass trap, tuned corner traps, treatment throughout, and full-lite doors for controlled transmission and visibility. Though modest in size, it delivers accurate monitoring and integrates smoothly with the larger live environment.

The DeVance Team has collaborated with various synergistic partners in order to create a one-of-a-kind ‘Experience Center’ in the North Dallas corridor. This Electronic Lifestyle facility has quickly become a savvy social and entertaining environment; set up to demonstrate just a few things one can do in their home or office to enhance their quality of life through the use of technology. Guests are dazzled by a plethora of custom electronic selections, incorporated into the latest technology in a cozy, yet high-end residential-style environment. The entire space is home to dozens of custom paintings by local artists and master-crafted wood works and built in cabinetry. The reception area is complimented with a 55” custom designed Art Screen TV with retractable art that rolls up into a motorized casing to reveal a 4K TV screen. The additional spaces show beautifully, with a modern family room, a sophisticated entertainment lounge, and fully functional, stocked wet bar. An acoustically treated 2-Channel listening room houses the finest in McIntosh audio equipment complete with a turntable. This room was designed for vinyl record or streaming music for ‘audiophile enthusiasts.’ The DeVance 18 seat movie theater boasts a state-of-the-art perforated ten foot screen, JBL Synthesis 7.1 surround sound system and crystal clear Runco projection system. Guests enjoy luxurious motorized leather theater seating complete with warm throws and leather ottomans for comfortable movie viewing. The DeVance restrooms continue the Electronic Lifestyle theme on a more personal level, as they are equipped with the top of the line sensor faucets and sinks by TOTO USA, Electric Mirror TVs and the ‘cleaner and greener’ electronic TOTO USA Washlets!
The ultimate vision for the DeVance Experience was to create an environment unlike any retail storefront or big box shop, where a unique and exciting experience awaits existing and prospective clients, guests, trade partners and business associates. Collaborating partners are encouraged to utilize the space as a mini-custom showroom of their own; accessing a relaxing environment to lay out clients’ space plans and select samples for custom countertops, specialized cabinet designs, fabrics, paint, carpets, etc. Essentially, The DeVance Experience Center is the hottest design/build/electronic lifestyle showroom around, lending a whole new meaning to “industry partnerships!” Based on current knowledge, there is no other showroom that is comparable.
The layout of the new Experience Center was designed specifically for event marketing. To name a few, continuing education classes and training seminars for builders, remodelers, architects, and interior designers, professional meet up groups and local business functions. Private client tours, relationship appreciation functions, sports and movie watching parties are just a smattering of the promotional campaign lineup. The center provides a professional, yet relaxing and entertaining venue for professional industry trade gatherings and events.
The Experience Center offers a showcase for user-friendly automation and control and variety of electronic lifestyle systems throughout the space via the use of an iPhone, iPad or smart tablet. With ease and elegance, guests may choose to control the lighting, shades and draperies, thermostats, whole house music, multiple televisions and video displays (many of which are concealed behind beautifully framed artwork). Mimicking many of the latest possibilities for the high-end homeowner, all of this in a comfortable and luxurious environment that makes them feel right at home!

Hive HomeThis 90s Spanish-style condo in West Hollywood was, on arrival, dark, heavy and dated. Our client wanted a minimal environment influenced by Japanese and Scandinavian Modern design. Hive Home ensured that it was still warm and earthy. Dated tile floors throughout were replaced with oak. Architectural elements like the fireplace and supportive beam were highlighted. Custom rift oak cabinetry throughout gives sleek and thoughtful storage. Tadelakt walls, raked textured marble floors, and a custom travertine sink in the bathrooms are tactile, making even the most minimal environment a joy for the senses. Minimalism, but make it Hive.
