Inspiration for a mid-sized traditional partial sun side yard landscaping in New Orleans for summer.

A retired client wanted to jazz up the entrance to her home but leave the orchard, veggie beds and hardscape the way it was. Since she does all the maintenance herself, I wanted to make sure she wouldn't have too many weeds so we used the winter months to sheet mulch the area, killing the massive amount of existing weeds & enriching the hard soil. This worked beautifully.
We added a flagstone pathway with Dymondia between the stones and a small area for her new bench to sit and enjoy the garden. She didn't want plants under her messy tree, so we decorated that area with pots. She has a huge deer & gopher problem which is why she hangs the white ribbons to scare away the deer from her fruit trees.

Materials for pathway include: Japanese Holly, Reclaimed Granite Edging, and Pea stone gravel. The walkway is a pervious surface and abuts several native plants including Mountain Laurel and Eastern Red Cedar.

Luxury Elements created this walk in wine cellar as a focal point within the basement. The custom glass panels and center glass door allows this space to be seen at all times while also creating its own dedicated environment. The large-scale light grey tile was installed on the floor throughout the bar area and wine cellar in order to bring a sense of connection between the two spaces.

Grapes are one of the easiest fruits to grow in the NW because they require little interventions. the sweetness can be over 25%. Raisin making is typical for many of our smaller champagne type fruits. With little summer pruning and fertility the grape varieties suitable for the NW number in the dozens. The seedless table grapes are most popular but the wine grape such as Siegerrebe or Madeline Angevine are excellent choices for the home vintner. Photo by Gil Schieber

Peering through an opening in the garden, looking toward Bald Mountain, you'll find a vignette that celebrates foliage color and texture. From left to right: picea abies 'Cobra', picea pungens 'Globosa', berberis 'Orange Rocket', with calamagrostis acutiflora 'Karl Foerster' in the rear.

Drought tolerant plantings of Geranium Rozanne and California native grasses under the olive tree require little maintenance.
