Kitchen - transitional kitchen idea in Boston

This penthouse awning installation near New York City shows 2,000+ square feet of dining area that is now completely protected by a waterproof retractable enclosure. The desire was for a penthouse awning that provided protection from the sun, but was also heavy-duty enough to handle inclement weather. The owner wanted to preserve the Al-fresco outdoor dining feel of the rooftop patio, but wanted to be able to hit a button for on-demand protection when needed. This restaurant can now book additional functions, generating more revenue from the penthouse than before the awning was installed - guaranteeing their patrons a protected space. The Gennius is a retractable pergola awning SPECIFICALLY designed to handle inclement weather. Rainwater is routed downward with the slope of the fabric, and captured within a gutter integrated within the awning's supporting framework. Rainwater then escapes the gutter through the support posts and is diverted away from the entertaining area. Placed on a large site with the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy at the rear boundary, this one story residence presents a modest, composed public façade to the street while opening to the rear yard with two wings surrounding a large loggia or “outdoor living room.” With its thick walls, overhangs, and ample cross ventilation, the project demonstrates the simple idea that a building should respond carefully to its environment. A neutral, family friendly kitchen with touches of modern flair. The opposite colors of the cabinetry and kitchen island set this kitchen apart from the rest. The large kitchen island with marble counter tops is a cooks best friend. The rectangular tile back splash warms up this space and adds texture in the right way.

Dancer Concrete Design was contacted to find the best way to deliver a finished concrete floor in such a different type of space. The home’s design is of two intersecting circles that make up the garage and main living space. A basement sits below half of the structure while a structural concrete pad supports the other half circle. The floor finishing would take place in the living room, dinning room, and into the kitchen. For this project the owners were fully occupying the space. Of course this process aesthetically enhances the space, but we have also found it to increase the durability of our floors. After mechanically removing the grout we move to additional polishing steps and our two-step sealing process of densification and stain guard. Densifying is a reactive penetrating sealer that makes the concrete even stronger and resistant to scratches, stains and other contaminants. The homeowner selected a natural concrete finish – no added stains or dyes – and the final day, the team polished the floor to the desired finish, a level one, 400-grit shine.
