The house was commissioned by two brothers as a weekend retreat located on Table Rock Lake in southwest Missouri. It is situated on a peninsula with lake views on three sides. The house sits on columns and utilizes previous paving. Natural light and ventilation flow strategically through the home enhancing it’s picturesque views and relation to the natural setting. Design decisions regarding form and material choices respect and develop these ideals. Taking inspiration from a vintage Polaroid Camera, the form of the building is intended to frame the scenic setting from every angle – creating ‘postcards’ from within. A Master Bedroom in a weekend waterfront residence needed a fresh, open look --- not too fussy, but with an inviting, comfortable atmosphere. It needed to be easy to maintain, but with a luxuriousness to the design. Although the room feels large which is due to the soaring ceiling height, it is not that big. There was just enough space for two night tables on each side of the king-size bed and with the other walls being angled and having windows, it was tricky to get a furniture plan worked out. There is, in addition to the pair of chairs, an armoire for a television screen just out of the camera range. Not trying to squeeze in more furniture has kept the room feeling light and airy.
