For this project, I was hired to create a meeting space for a home office as well as a meeting area for clients. This room was an area over a garage, not being used and was converted to a home base for a family business. I presented a variety of commercial furniture solutions, fully capable of withstanding the abuse of everyday use. Paint for walls paired with heavy-duty carpet tiles created a space optimized for productivity and comfort.

Refined simplicity defines this clean, contemporary staircase. Dark solid oak treads contrast beautifully with crisp white risers, square balusters, and newels, creating a striking visual rhythm. The design includes a thoughtful landing that doubles as a reading nook, transforming a transitional space into a destination. White railing runs the full length of the stairwell, maintaining the home's bright, minimalist aesthetic while providing safety and structure. A passion project for The Fernandes family, “The Haverly” is the culmination of a multi-year dream for the clients, who had envisioned a complimentary pool house to go with their authentic mid-century modern home since purchasing it years ago. They took their time, scouring construction sites for the unique Haver Block, a pre-cast signature brick, long since out of production, that was a staple of famed local architect, Ralph Haver. They also obtained and held onto period-appropriate decorative panels from the Biltmore during one of its many remodels. The structure itself takes outdoor/indoor living to another level, with 30 linear feet of the exterior being retractable floor-to-ceiling glass panels, meeting on a corner. This presented a fun design challenge for Zach Burns of MODE Architecture, who had to figure out how to cantilever the majority of the exterior roof with a minimum of visible support. The glass is offset by exposed CMU, with a specific linear grout pattern, and a metal roof fascia with complementary linear detail. The focal point of course is the custom-made walnut bar, complete with period-specific “boomerang” laminate tops and padded leather bar rail. Behind the bar is a commercial-grade bar set up, highlighted by an 80” TV with the capability to split into 4 smaller pictures (period specific to the 21st century!) The bathroom tile matches the pool coping tile, the cozy semi-private office is enhanced by a gorgeous piece of 1950s furniture, and the one-of-a-kind neon sign was a gift from Regency to close friends.

If we use them in the right way, rugs are capable of generating a cozy, warm and comfortable atmosphere that will make our house a true home. On the other hand, they also help us when it comes to giving that more personal touch. The trend for 2021 and that will surely continue until next year. As New England's premier custom glass design firm, we were proud to bring this stunning orangery addition to life for a Carlisle, Massachusetts family we’ve worked with on two other occasions. Orangeries, historically designed for cultivating citrus trees, have evolved into luxurious glass-enclosed spaces offering year-round natural light and connection to the outdoors. This custom orangery demonstrates Sunspace Design's mastery of blending the classic style with modern amenities. Over two years of meticulous planning culminated in the results you see here. Drawn to our local reputation and in-house design and fabrication capabilities, the clients collaborated closely with us to realize their vision. Spanning an impressive 14' x 22'6", the orangery brings an air of grandeur to the rear of the colonial-style home while complementing the existing architecture. The centerpiece is the custom hip-style glass roof, outfitted with insulated safety glass, framed in rich sapele mahogany, and adorned with copper glazing, flashing, and capping. Blue reflective glass set in the roof creates a captivating interplay of light throughout the day and contributes to the space’s lasting elegance. The roof line is set in from the walls to create a perimeter soffit on the interior, typical of orangeries. Custom wet bar cabinetry, crown moldings, and tilework complete the orangery, reflecting the family's discerning taste and creating an excellent spot for entertaining. Our role as general contractor, our design expertise, and our fabrication abilities ensured this project's seamless execution. From engineered CAD drawings to the intricate roof assembly, the Sunspace commitment to quality is evident in the finished result. We started by removing the existing peninsula that closed off the kitchen. Opening up the space allowed us to create a massive island but making that vision a reality required some serious work. Plumbing and electrical had to be relocated, which meant carefully cutting into the slab foundation to accommodate the new island layout. We also removed the existing walk-in pantry and replaced it with beautifully integrated pantry cabinetry featuring convenient roll-out trays—giving the homeowners excellent storage while maintaining a clean, consistent cabinetry layout. The homeowners made some fantastic selections, including whitewashed oak cabinetry paired with stunning jumbo Cambria slabs for the countertops. A clean, modern white porcelain full-tile backsplash completes the look and keeps the space feeling bright and timeless. The cabinetry was taken all the way to the ceiling, maximizing storage and giving the kitchen a custom-built-in appearance. Glass-front cabinets with LED backlighting add an elegant display element, while under-cabinet lighting provides practical task lighting and a warm evening glow. And the kitchen got a serious appliance upgrade! The new layout features an induction cooktop and two ovens, giving the homeowners plenty of capability for everyday cooking and entertaining. To tie everything together, we also built a custom entertainment center, creating a cohesive look that extends beyond the kitchen and into the living space.

2010 NARI CAPITAL COTY GRAND AWARD WINNER A young couple with toddlers purchased this home and decided to do extensive renovations before they moved in. The existing galley kitchen and dining room were too small and separated by a load bearing wall. The sunken family room floor was less than ideal for small children to have to climb up and down. The first step in the renovation involved eliminating the load bearing walls and replacing them with a new steel beam capable of handling the load. By doing so, Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes was able to combine the galley kitchen and dining room into one large family kitchen with an eating area. The focal point of the new space is a large multi-purpose island with a cooktop. Cherry stained cabinetry with a dark granite countertop provides plenty of storage and workspace, as well as bar seating. The same materials are used around the perimeter of the kitchen. One wall features upper and lower cabinets which surround a stainless steel refrigerator and double wall ovens. A large pantry is included on this wall. The second wall houses the main kitchen sink and built-in dishwasher. A large window sits above the sink area allowing the parents to watch over children playing in the backyard. A butler area features a utility sink and an under-the-counter beverage refrigerator that is easy for the kids to access. The family room floor was raised to be level with the rest of the first floor and Brazilian cherry wood floors provide continuity and richness throughout the space. Archways were built for style and pleasant viewing from each room. The end result of the project is that this kitchen is the heart of the home. The living and dining area is now large enough for family gatherings and entertaining.
