Inspiration for a coastal bathroom remodel in San Diego

Two cedar posts on the upper patio became the anchor points for the two corners of the spa, which is 7 x 96, and raised 18 above the pool. The negative edge is finished in a porcelain mosaic tile from Noble Tile, which blends beautifully with the Mediterranean Blue Signature Series plaster finish. Inside the spa, the seatbacks are angled, for comfort, and the Leuder limestone coping is set with no overhang, and with a quarter-round finish. There are 12 jets set individually and in groups, measured specifically for the clients needs, supplied by two booster pumps and an air blower, and the bench is set at varying depths, to accommodate all members of the family. At the pool level, the spa is partially surrounded by massive Leuder limestone stepper pads, floating on the 176 x 206 wet deck. Each slab of limestone is 4 wide, by 46 long, and it took four men to set each slab in place. Sleeves for drainage and irrigation we run to two of the stepper pads, so the landscaper could place large pots, for seasonal color. The wet deck and stepper pad area is lit by four Glo-Brite LED lights, which are synchronized with the pool lights. Stair stepper waterfalls line the back wall of the pool. Two columns encompass the waterfall with sheer descent fountains.

This previously unused attic space is now a sauna/yoga room. The left sauna wall follows the attic rafters down diagonally to allow a wider space for leg room on the twin sauna benches.

We built the privacy screens with 1 × 6 boards of beautiful western red cedar, and we stained them. The 8-foot cedar privacy screen beside the hot tub is the largest of the three. Because the screens are not solid, but have small gaps between boards, they allow some light into the area. Looking out from within the seating area, the homeowners see a bit of daylight through the privacy screens.

US Floors

Handscraped or distressed hardwood floors have a natural worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.

Contemporary horizontal design using Sapele mahogany boards with a "dime gap". The two vertical stiles are inlaid. The design and Sikkens stain finish compliment the wood soffit above and other wood features on the front of this beautiful home. Note the apparent absence of horizontal breaks between door sections. This door is only 20 feet or so from the street so even the casual viewer gets to appreciate its sophisticated wood grain details.

The grey trend has evolved in the last twelve months. Nowadays browns, beige and a touch of grey are in demand. Greige is the new buzzword. Heavier hand scraped or contoured products, the rage that started around 2005 has taken a back seat in most areas, while a softer wire brushed "ceruse effect" seen mostly on White Oak has been remarkably strong showing no effects of becoming “dated” like the others mentioned. Ceruse Color Possibilities There are numerous color combinations to the "cerused" process with the most popular being white or off white. This design trend in hardwood flooring can have darker gray white oak with a mild ceruse off white effect. There are limitless possibilities in either a prefinished hardwood floor or with what we can create for you in a custom on-site finished hardwood floor.
