Situated on a prominent corner lot in the Zilker neighborhood, this Mid-Century inspired home presents a unique opportunity to activate two street elevations, while maintaining a sense of scale and character within the neighborhood. An exposed glulam roof structure radiates from a single steel column, wrapping and folding around the corner to create a home with two striking facades. Tucked to the side and back of the lot, the second story is sited to help de-scale the corner and create spectacular vistas of the folded roof and the courtyard below. The interior courtyard is best viewed as you descend the stairwell and look out over the private pool scape. On a very exposed corner lot, the U-shaped plan also allows for privacy and seclusion for the homeowner. Public spaces such as the kitchen, living room and dining room, are located in direct relationship to the courtyard to enhance bringing the outside in. Challenge: Tuscan homes in Scottsdale are everywhere, and the design language that defined them, heavy wood, ornate details, dark iron, and rustic stone, does not transition gracefully on its own. The goal was to shed that Old World weight and move the home into something warmer and more current without losing the character that makes a remodeled home feel intentional rather than generic. Solution: Living with Lolo led the full remodel and furnishings as a single integrated project, which meant every decision from the custom cabinetry to the final throw pillow was made in service of the same design vision. The hand-painted terracotta tile backsplash brought artisan character into the kitchen in a way that felt fresh rather than Tuscan, and the basalt black stone fireplace gave the living space a bold focal point that reads as distinctly modern. Because Lauren holds both an interior design credential and an active Arizona ROC general contractor license, the construction and design were managed under one roof with no gap between the two. Materials: Custom hand-painted terracotta tile backsplash, custom cabinetry, basalt black stone fireplace, curated warm modern furnishings and textiles sourced through Living with Lolo's trade relationships. Located at the heart of South Seas Resort on Captiva Island, this beautiful Bali inspired island residence blends lush tropical plantings with contemporary architecture and hardscape elements to create an opulent island paradise. The entry is framed with tropical Florida palms and bamboo and opens up to reveal a circular drive with a stunning specimen palm courtyard featuring multi-stem foxtails, winin palms, thrinax palms and specimen old-man palm. A serene rectilinear reflecting pool flanks both sides of the slate walk and connects the drive to the front entry. Decorative modern planters with specimen palms frame and compliment the architectural character and design of this Bali inspired residence. A breezeway at the ground level of the residence connects the front entry to the clean, modern, resort-like pool and spa at the Gulf side of the residence. Coconut palms rise from strategically placed pool deck planters offer light shade and a tropical view from the main living level above. Outdoor living is fully realized with many seating areas on the expansive pool deck and patios above, outdoor kitchen, pool and spa and island themed furniture. The landscape at the Gulf side of the property was designed to complement the creative design of the pool with low colorful bougainvillea and plumbago plantings between the pool and open lawn. A beach path through the manicured seagrape hedge connects the pool and lawn to the expansive beach beyond in just a few short steps.
