THE SETUP “You have to figure out how to rebuild a life worth living,” Basia Kozub’s client says. Her husband passed away suddenly three years ago. Holidays with family became more important, and she found herself struggling with a 37-year old kitchen that was falling apart. “I made a decision to move forward,” she says. “I went, ‘You know what? I’m redoing the kitchen.'” The big task of getting started was as easy as having a conversation – literally. Basia was on the job, helping the client sort through priorities, wishes and ideas. Basia’s client is 5′ 4″, likes keeping an eye on the kiddoes in the backyard and wanted certain things to have their own place. THE REMODEL The objectives were: Enlarge and open the space Find a classic look that incorporates blues Upgrade to easy-to-use appliances Hide an office space within the space Ample storage for dishes Design challenges: Uneven window alignment on the back wall Original kitchen smaller than desired, stuctural concerns if walls to be moved Keep folks close – figure out seating for entertaining Main sink in corner is ideal, but windows are hard to reach Lots of storage needed for dishes, glass collection, pantry items, bar bottles and office supplies Specific storage needs for oft-used spices and utensils THE RENEWED SPACE Design solutions: Replace back wall windows, establish window size continuity Take out two walls to open up the space, tall shallow cabinet and a tall filler added to conceal a new header Large island that seats six easily Custom corner sink cabinet with recessed edge allows vertically challenged homeowner to reach the windows Mindful storage planning features: plenty of cabinets, pull-out bar bottle storage, file drawers & cubbies with pocket doors for office appliances, magic corner pullouts, and appliance garages with pocket doors Shelf behind range for easy access to daily-use spices and oils. Also: spice and utensil pullouts on either side of range The clients says every priority and wish box got checked. The highly functional design absorbed everything that used to be in that area of the house, but now those things are out of the way. “In the past, we were all spread out when we gathered for the holidays, because we had to spread out. Now, we’re all in here together, including my 92-year old mother. We’re visiting, cooking, laughing… everyone is here. And I’m really learning how to use these appliances. This kitchen has given me a whole new life.”

When the homeowner came to us with an idea to incorporate bunk beds into a large game room, we knew we could create something fun but truly functional. This custom bunk bed design sleeps 4 and feeds up to 6. There are two bunks up top accessible via hidden ladders and two pull out trundles below for two additional sleeping spaces. It is a big hit with the kids and the adults that come over to visit. Each upper bunk has a mini cubby with a USB charging station, light and even a place to stash their personal items.

With a small apartment kitchen, every square inch is necessary. This wall pantry was custom built for this kitchen to help store an overflow of items used daily, and also served as an organizer for brooms, swifter and mop. Everyday items within reach and less used items up top. The second picture was a little box shelf we built out of the left over pieces. It still holds quite a bit.

We moved the bread box here and are using it as a bread box, not a miscellaneous spic holder. This is where the husband would layout his mail, charge his phone, leave his vitamin box and other miscellaneous items. It was originally a poor use of space as his personal items would get food on them and it didn't leave much food preparing room. "In this fun kitchen renovation project, Andrea Langford was contacted by a repeat customer to turn an out of date kitchen into a modern, open kitchen that was perfect for entertaining guests. In the new kitchen design the worn out laminate cabinets and soffits were replaced with larger cabinets that went up to the ceiling. This gave the room a larger feel, while also providing more storage space. Rutt handcrafted cabinets were finished in white and grey to give the kitchen a unique look. A new elegant quartz counter-top and marble mosaic back splash completed the kitchen transformation. The idea behind this kitchen redesign was to give the space a more modern feel, while still complimenting the traditional features found in the rest of the colonial style home. For this reason, Andrea selected transitional style doors for the custom cabinetry. These doors featured a style and rail design that paid homage to the traditional nature of the house. Contemporary stainless steel hardware and light fixtures gave the space the tasteful modern twist the clients had envisioned. For the floor, large porcelain faux-wood tiles were used to provide a low-maintenance and modern alternative to traditional wood floors. The dark brown hue of the tiles complimented the grey and white tones of the kitchen and were perfect for warming up the space. In the bar area, custom wine racks and a wine cooler were installed to make storing wine and wine glasses a breeze. A cute small round 9” stainless steel under mount sink gives a perfect spot to keep champagne on ice while entertaining guests. The new design also created a small desk space by the pantry door that provides a functional space to charge mobile devices and store the home phone and other miscellaneous items." - Andrea Langford Designs

This Historical Home was built in the Columbia Country Club in 1925 and was ready for a new, modern kitchen which kept the traditional feel of the home. A previous sunroom addition created a dining room, but the original kitchen layout kept the two rooms divided. The kitchen was a small and cramped c-shape with a narrow door leading into the dining area. The kitchen and dining room were completely opened up, creating a long, galley style, open layout which maximized the space and created a very good flow. Dimensions In Wood worked in conjuction with the client’s architect and contractor to complete this renovation. Custom cabinets were built to use every square inch of the floorplan, with the cabinets extending all the way to the ceiling for the most storage possible. Our woodworkers even created a step stool, staining it to match the kitchen for reaching these high cabinets. The family already had a kitchen table and chairs they were happy with, so we refurbished them to match the kitchen’s new stain and paint color. Crown molding top the cabinet boxes and extends across the ceiling where they create a coffered ceiling, highlighting the beautiful light fixtures centered on a wood medallion. Columns were custom built to provide separation between the different sections of the kitchen, while also providing structural support. Our master craftsmen kept the original 1925 glass cabinet doors, fitted them with modern hardware, repainted and incorporated them into new cabinet boxes. TASK LED Lighting was added to this china cabinet, highlighting the family’s decorative dishes. Appliance Garage On one side of the kitchen we built an appliance garage with doors that slide back into the cabinet, integrated power outlets and door activated lighting. Beside this is a small Galley Workstation for beverage and bar service which has the Galley Bar Kit perfect for sliced limes and more. Baking Cabinet with Pocket Doors On the opposite side, a baking cabinet was built to house a mixer and all the supplies needed for creating confections. Automatic LED lights, triggered by opening the door, create a perfect baker’s workstation. Both pocket doors slide back inside the cabinet for maximum workspace, then close to hide everything, leaving a clean, minimal kitchen devoid of clutter. Super deep, custom drawers feature custom dividers beneath the baking cabinet. Then beneath the appliance garage another deep drawer has custom crafted produce boxes per the customer’s request. Central to the kitchen is a walnut accent island with a granite countertop and a Stainless Steel Galley Workstation and an overhang for seating. Matching bar stools slide out of the way, under the overhang, when not in use. A color matched outlet cover hides power for the island whenever appliances are needed during preparation. The Galley Workstation has several useful attachments like a cutting board, drying rack, colander holder, and more. Integrated into the stone countertops are a drinking water spigot, a soap dispenser, garbage disposal button and the pull out, sprayer integrated faucet. Directly across from the conveniently positioned stainless steel sink is a Bertazzoni Italia stove with 5 burner cooktop. A custom mosaic tile backsplash makes a beautiful focal point. Then, on opposite sides of the stove, columns conceal Rev-a-Shelf pull out towers which are great for storing small items, spices, and more. All outlets on the stone covered walls also sport dual USB outlets for charging mobile devices. Stainless Steel Whirlpool appliances throughout keep a consistent and clean look. The oven has a matching microwave above it which also works as a convection oven. Dual Whirlpool dishwashers can handle all the family’s dirty dishes. The flooring has black, marble tile inlays surrounded by ceramic tile, which are period correct for the age of this home, while still being modern, durable and easy to clean. Finally, just off the kitchen we also remodeled their bar and snack alcove. A small liquor cabinet, with a refrigerator and wine fridge sits opposite a snack bar and wine glass cabinets. Crown molding, granite countertops and cabinets were all customized to match this space with the rest of the stunning kitchen. Dimensions In Wood is more than 40 years of custom cabinets. We redesigned this client’s laundry space so that it now functions as a Mudroom and Laundry. There is a place for everything including drying racks and charging station for this busy family. Now there are smiles when they walk in to this charming bright room because it has ample storage and space to work!

This Brookfield Kitchen Remodel was initiated by the Owners desire to update her dated 1990's oak kitchen with a fresh new look. The once, u-shaped kitchen, was redesigned with a large island with granite countertop. A mix of white and dark stained custom cabinets brightened the space and gave personality to chef space. Quartz countertops on the perimeter coordinates with the grey glass subway backsplash. Glass Uppers finish the cabinetry off, providing a space for the Owner to display fun dish-ware. Additional customization is found in the message center with mail slots, charging station, cork board and dry erase boards.

All the cabinets have pull out shelves for easy access to all the items in the cabinets.

This bathroom is long and narrow, with expansive vaulted ceilings. Clever storage solutions were needed to best use the space. We added a small appliance garage on the vanity to hide items that are used daily and require an outlet. This clever solution blends function with the clean, modern look the client wanted.
