The primary style of this new lounge space could be classified as an American-style pub, with the rustic quality of a prohibition-era speakeasy balanced by the masculine look of a Victorian-era men’s lounge. The wet bar was designed as three casual sections distributed along the two window walls. Custom counters were created by combining antiqued copper on the surface and riveted iron strapping on the edges. The ceiling was opened up, peaking at 12', and the framing was finished with reclaimed wood, converting the vaulted space into a pyramid for a four-walled cathedral ceiling. In the upper-right corner of the photo, you can see the WhisperKool wine cellar cooling unit. This is a split-type air conditioning unit and it’s very popular among small or compact wine cellars. It doesn’t take up space and all you can see are the hex grills that hide the evaporator and air filter. Together with our cost-effective humidifier (hidden inside the center drawer), they help keep the temperature and humidity at optimum level for the preservation of the wines and the cigars. Despite the grand size of the 300-square-foot den and its cathedral ceiling, the room remains cozy and welcoming. The casual living space is a respite from the white walls and trim that illuminate most of the main level. Instead, natural cherry built-in shelving and paneling span the fireplace wall and fill the room with a warm masculine sensibility. The hearth surround of the gas fireplace exhibits prosperity for detail. The herringbone pattern is constructed of small, tumbled-slate tiles and topped with a simple natural cherry mantel. There are integrated windows into the design of the fireplace wall. The small, high sidelights are joined by three grand windows that fill most of the room's back wall and offer an inviting view of the backyard. Comfortable twin chairs and a classic-style sofa provide ideal spots to relax, read or enjoy a show on the TV, which is hidden in the corner behind vintage shutters.
