The client’s kitchen initially lacked the storage, workspace, and lighting needed to support everyday living and entertaining. The redesign was centered on creating a kitchen that feels both highly functional and effortlessly refined. Expansive countertops and tailored custom cabinetry transformed the space, providing abundant storage and eliminating visual clutter. Layered lighting—including sleek recessed under-cabinet lighting and additional recessed ceiling fixtures—creates a warm, inviting atmosphere while enhancing task efficiency. The two-toned custom cabinetry, with white upper cabinets, was intentionally selected to open up the space visually, giving the kitchen a brighter, more expansive feel that the client can truly enjoy day to day.

Lauren Hunt from Reico Kitchen and Bath in Charlotte, NC, worked with The Atta Group to design a transitional-inspired kitchen and bar using Masterpiece cabinetry. The kitchen features Masterpiece cabinets in the Martel Evercore doorstyle in a Frost finish on the perimeter. The kitchen island and bar area both features the same doorstyle with a combination of two different finishes, Riverbed and Shortbread. The countertops are Calacatta Macchia Vecchia Sapien Stone Porcelain. The client shared their experience, saying, “I love the range hood and the slatted island decor. Riverbed is a beautiful color in both sun and shade. Lauren’s advice to get samples and lay them out in different lighting was invaluable. She went above and beyond, even coming out in the parking lot on a hot summer day to help us. We truly couldn’t have done this without her. Lauren was always patient and supportive as we made decisions, and she never pressured us. Any future projects we have, we’ll 100% reach out to Lauren. She even welcomed our newborn to the showroom!” Lauren shared, “The clients came with a clear aesthetic vision and plenty of inspiration photos, but they gave me the freedom to recommend and create a space that worked for their growing family while still looking great. We added design details like two-toned dining room cabinets, dark accent shelves in glass towers, an arched valance to match the doorways, and a custom hood that pulls from the island finishes. My favorite element is the slatted accent on the island, which the installers executed perfectly. This renovation was a big project, starting with a blank slate, which can be overwhelming with so many options. But it was incredibly rewarding to work with these clients who had such a creative vision. We really worked together to create a space that met their needs while showcasing their style. We recently finished this basement for a client and ran into a challenge when we reached this section of the room. Plumbing + 2 supports with concrete bases couldn’t be moved. If we boxed them in, it would make everything too tight and unusable. Since this client LOVES trains, we decided to get creative. The result – a custom train table to go around the columns. We even had enough scrap material to add to one of the walls so the client could hand a dart board. Talk about a fun basement!

I completed this daylight basement design for Thayer Construction in March of 2018. Our clients wanted a rustic looking daylight basement remodel. First, 3 walls were removed and a structural beam was added to support the building weight from the upper 2 floors. Then to achieve the rustic look our clients wanted, a coffered ceiling was designed and installed. Faux posts were also added in the space to visually offset the structurally necessary post near the bar area. A whitewash/stain was applied to the lumber to give it a rustic, weathered look. The stair railings, banisters and treads were also redone to match the rustic faux beams and posts. A red brick facade was added to the alcove and a bright red freestanding fireplace was installed. All new lighting was installed throughout the basement including wall scones, pendants and recessed LED lighting. We also replaced the original sliding door and installed a large set of french doors with sidelights to let even more natural light into the space. The concrete floors were stained in an earthtone color to further the desired look of the daylight basement. Our clients, a couple in their 40’s, approached us to remodel their Kitchen, which felt cramped and closed off from the rest of the Main Floor. They felt especially isolated when entertaining guests. They love to cook and entertain, but the lack of space made both of those things difficult for them to do. We removed the walls surrounding the Kitchen, opening it up to the rest of the Main Floor. We expanded the Kitchen across the new open area, allowing for a lot more counter space for preparing and serving food. This also gave room for an enormous island, which is perfect for guests to gather around while entertaining. During the planning stage, it was discovered that beams and posts needed to remain in the space for structural support. Our talented designer, Chantal, was able to incorporate the beams and posts in the design of the Kitchen, so they served a logical purpose, rather than feeling like they were in the way. Featured in the new Kitchen are classic black and white cabinets, complemented by brass fixtures and accents. Ample task and ambient lighting was installed in order to brighten up this new space and allow for better visibility when cooking in the Kitchen. We also installed luxury vinyl flooring throughout the space, which is not only stylish,but incredibly durable. From the beginning of the project, our Clients shared with us their concerns about the project staying within the budget, and the accuracy of the timeline for construction. Ultimately, we were able to ease those concerns, as we finished the renovation on time, and within the allotted budget without compromising on the quality or design wishes of our clients. We are excited to share the completion of Southworth Interior Design’s most recent project! Our client uses this bedroom as a guest room but they also keep office supplies such as their printer, internet tower, and important paperwork in this room. To accommodate the functionality of the room, we found the perfect nightstand which also serves as a filing cabinet. A matching bookshelf now displays special keepsakes and an updated printer stand provides extra storage for office supplies. Wait until you hear this… the wood paneling on the walls were installed in the 80s! ? We removed the paneling on the wall with the window and replaced the dark wood blinds with some new custom white faux wood blinds. We kept the paneling on the other wall because it created a subtle shiplap effect once painted. The client requested a tan paint with blue accents. We selected Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams and found a lovely reversible blue quilt from Pottery Barn (still waiting on the shams which are back ordered) as well as a light blue lamp from Wayfair. Lastly, we showcased some special art work for the client that was painted by their family member. What do you think of the final result?! Every selection had to balance bold sculptural modernism (high contrast, statement lighting, architectural furnishings) with durability, comfort, and day-to-day livability. In addition, the home served as a “Live Lab,” meaning new vendors, materials, and luxury furnishings needed to be tested in real-life conditions before being trusted for future high-profile client projects. Solution: We approached the project with a highly curated, test-and-refine design strategy, treating each space as both a finished interior and a real-world evaluation environment. Key furnishings, textiles, and materials were selected to support the modern organic vision while also standing up to the demands of everyday family life. We worked through selections intentionally, layering in bold contrast, natural woods, and sculptural statement pieces, while prioritizing performance materials, pet-friendly durability, and timeless foundational elements. By using the home as a lived-in showroom, we were able to validate what truly performs beautifully, refine our vendor relationships, and confidently carry those proven selections into future client designs.
