The homeowners wanted to add additional custom storage. They were thrilled with the extra closet space and the practicality of custom additions like shoe racks and jewelry organizers.

A small 2nd floor laundry room was added to this 1910 home during a master suite addition. The linen closet (see painted white doors left) was double sided (peninsula tall pantry cabinet) to the master suite bathroom for ease of folding and storing bathroom towels. Stacked metal shelves held a laundry basket for each member of the household. A custom tile shower pan was installed to catch any potential leaks or plumbing issues that may occur down the road....and prevent ceiling damage in rooms beneath. The shelf above holds a steam generator for the walk in shower in the adjacent master bathroom.

Our Clients, the proud owners of a landmark 1860’s era Italianate home, desired to greatly improve their daily ingress and egress experience. With a growing young family, the lack of a proper entry area and attached garage was something they wanted to address. They also needed a guest suite to accommodate frequent out-of-town guests and visitors. But in the homeowner’s own words, “He didn’t want to be known as the guy who ‘screwed up’ this beautiful old home”. Our design challenge was to provide the needed space of a significant addition, but do so in a manner that would respect the historic home. Our design solution lay in providing a “hyphen”: a multi-functional daily entry breezeway connector linking the main house with a new garage and in-law suite above.

Our homeowners came to us knowing they wanted to stay in their beautiful Arlington neighborhood, close to work, schools, and an active community. Their home, though, was a small one-story home (with basement) that had been built many years ago. Their vision was to add space that still allowed them the use of the substantial front and back yards that they so enjoyed with their family and friends. MOSS designed an entire upper level for them that gave them an incredibly large master suite with ensuite bathroom and large walk-in closet, two exceptionally large bedrooms for their children, and a new hallway bathroom that is accessible for all. Overall, the before and after is a beautiful and very practical change for these customers.

Behind the central wall in the home is the private zone of the condo. A queen-sized bed is lofted over a built-in desk, bookshelves, laundry, and closet. This home had a generous master suite prior to the renovation; however, it was located close to the rest of the bedrooms and baths on the floor. They desired their own separate oasis with more privacy and asked us to design and add a 2nd story addition over the existing 1st floor family room, that would include a master suite with a laundry/gift wrapping room. We added a 2nd story addition without adding to the existing footprint of the home. The addition is entered through a private hallway with a separate spacious laundry room, complete with custom storage cabinetry, sink area, and countertops for folding or wrapping gifts. The bedroom is brimming with details such as custom built-in storage cabinetry with fine trim mouldings, window seats, and a fireplace with fine trim details. The master bathroom was designed with comfort in mind. A custom double vanity and linen tower with mirrored front, quartz countertops and champagne bronze plumbing and lighting fixtures make this room elegant. Water jet cut Calcatta marble tile and glass tile make this walk-in shower with glass window panels a true work of art. And to complete this addition we added a large walk-in closet with separate his and her areas, including built-in dresser storage, a window seat, and a storage island. The finished renovation is their private spa-like place to escape the busyness of life in style and comfort. These delightful homeowners are already talking phase two of renovations with us and we look forward to a longstanding relationship with them.

This McLean home was transformed with a new, open kitchen and family room on the main level, and, beautifully, an entirely new second level! With a gorgeously designed center staircase leading upstairs, the second level now encompasses a spacious primary suite with stunning bathroom (check out the floor tile!) and large closets, two new additional bedrooms, and another shared bath. A total update for this family to enjoy for years to come!

Who doesn't want a rolling library ladder in their closet? Never struggle to reach those high storage areas again! A dream closet, to be sure.
