Background/description: The house was built in 1908, my clients are only the 3rd owners of the house. The prior owner lived there from 1940s until she died at age of 98! The old home had loads of character and charm but was in pretty bad condition and desperately needed updates. The clients purchased the home a few years ago and did some work before they moved in (roof, HVAC, electrical) but decided to live in the house for a 6 months or so before embarking on the next renovation phase. I had worked with the clients previously on the wife's office space and a few projects in a previous home including the nursery design for their first child so they reached out when they were ready to start thinking about the interior renovations. The goal was to respect and enhance the historic architecture of the home but make the spaces more functional for this couple with two small kids. Clients were open to color and some more bold/unexpected design choices. The design style is updated traditional with some eclectic elements. An early design decision was to incorporate a dark colored french range which would be the focal point of the kitchen and to do dark high gloss lacquered cabinets in the adjacent coffee bar, and we ultimately went with dark green.

His & Hers Reach In Closets with Vaulted Ceiling
Prior to having their closets organized by Closet Factory the homeowners had one row of clothing in each closet with additional storage needed in their bedroom, consisting of a rolling rack of clothes and a shelf of shoes in their bedroom. After organizing the closets we were able to get all of their inventory back in the closets with room to spare.

This 10’ x 7’ floor cloth was made using a heavy-weight cotton canvas. Each floor cloth is stitch-hemmed and primed prior to the application of the design. Once the pattern is complete, 3 coats of a clear, marine, industrial finish are applied which provides a highly-durable surface. This Pearwood and black checkered pattern was highlighted with dark red floral motifs and a red border stripe. The floor cloth was designed to fit under a dining room table and chairs. We can make any size, paint any colors and create any design to suit individual tastes. Priced per commission. Photo by Hope Angier.

The kitchen with a decidedly New England-style motif, with cabinetry painted in 'turn of the century' standards, where a thin coat of plaster is applied to the wood and then sanded smooth prior to applying the final paint finish. An antique butcher-block table at the end of the island reinforces the vintage feel.

This set of cabinets and washing station is just inside the large garage. The washing area is to rinse off boots, fishing gear and the like prior to hanging them up. The doorway leads into the home--to the right is the laundry & guest suite to the left the balance of the home.

These homeowners were ready to update the home they had built when their girls were young. This was not a full gut remodel. The perimeter cabinetry mostly stayed but got new doors and height added at the top. The island and tall wood stained cabinet to the left of the sink are new and custom built and I hand-drew the design of the new range hood. The beautiful reeded detail came from our idea to add this special element to the new island and cabinetry. Bringing it over to the hood just tied everything together. We were so in love with this stunning Quartzite we chose for the countertops we wanted to feature it further in a custom apron-front sink. We were in love with the look of Zellige tile and it seemed like the perfect space to use it in.
