Nestled on the shore of New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee, is a family’s winter ski retreat. Contrary to the norm, this vacation home sees more use in the winter months than in the summer season. Breathtaking views of Mount Washington against a backdrop of shoreline dominate the scene; this vista was a driving force in the decision-making process. Doors and windows on the lakeside of the house were enlarged and expanded on to enhance the owners’ appreciation of their vantage point. The homeowners embraced, with a bit of convincing, a dark blue trim color for the exterior rather than the ubiquitous forest green common in the White Mountains. What began as a small renovation project morphed into a full renovation; the location warranted the upgrade. The client’s trust in the design team resulted in a home that is unique: contemporary while still offering the warmth and coziness of a winter retreat. The introduction of soft wood tones, a custom copper kitchen hood, and a warm muted color palate for interior trim and doors brings a coziness to the space without evoking a mountain ski lodge. The materials chosen further enhanced the natural elements of the site location: organic features include an antler chandelier, salvaged wood throughout for the mantel, ceilings, stair newels, and interior barn doors, and a live edge built-in bench in the mudroom. Spaces were designed to encourage family interaction and togetherness. The importance of solitude was thoughtfully crafted into the architecture and interiors of the family’s vacation home. SV Design made sure there were spaces where individual family members can pursue their own interests: a dedicated craft space, a family office, and a kids’ loft area. The redesign was forward thinking, to take the family into future phases in life, from the current teenage years through college years, and into the beyond of expanded family possibilities.

The apartment was created for a four person family in the heart of Moscow. The most interesting part of this project was the bespoke furniture which was individually designed and manufactured for this project. The project took around a year from first sketch to last fork. The interior was published in Architectural Digest and ELLE Decor Russia. Inspiration for this project was taken from a golden vinyl record of Pink Floyd’s - Dark side of the moon. The main shape of the interior was designed as a prism, which is on the cover of the album. In a dispersive prism, white light is split into the color spectrum. I put the same idea into the interior: common spaces (living room and kitchen) are neutral and all private areas are colorful. You will find each color of the rainbow in this apartment. The gold from the vinyl flows through the furniture, fixtures as well as the wall base. The style of the furniture was inspired by the 70’s, as the album was presented in 1973.

Aberdeen natural thin stone veneer from the Quarry Mill adds character and dimension to the exterior of this stunning residential home. Aberdeen is a classic ashlar style stone. It is broad in terms of applications due to the medium sized pieces. This natural stone veneer is well suited for both large and small scale walls. Aberdeen is sold as loose pieces of stone ranging from 2”-8” inches in height. The stones have natural edges that have been split with a hydraulic press. Aberdeen has a range of gold and grey tones in various textures. The stone is shown with a standard half-inch grey raked mortar joint between the individual pieces. This is the most common installation method, however, other joint options and mortar colors can be used. Aberdeen has a traditional and timeless look.

A Scottish crest badge is a heraldic badge worn to show allegiance to an individual or membership in a specific Scottish clan. Crest badges are commonly worn by members of Scottish clans. Crest badges consist of a crest and a motto/slogan. These badges usually consist of elements from the clan chief’s coat of arms. For example, the Wallace clan crest is an image of a dexter arm in armor with sword in hand and has a motto translating to “for liberty”.

Plymouth natural thin stone veneer looks stunning on this colonial style home. Plymouth is a natural blend of tight grained New England granite. The stone consists of soft beiges and greys with a natural and smooth texture. The black speckles within the stone give it a unique marbling that is sometimes referred to as salt and pepper. Plymouth is a castle rock style and characterized by the large rectangular pieces of stone. This style is also called square-rectangular or square-rec for short. The individual pieces can range from 4″-12″ in height. The castle rock style is most commonly found on large scale exterior projects.

This project is more than meets the eye! In a gorgeous neighborhood in Del Mar, San Diego, California, This unique small custom wine cellar truly acts as a showstopper. Originally within this house, the door which now faces outward used to be around the corner in a small hallway, virtually eliminating any visibility into this contemporary walk in custom wine cellar. Upon seeing the location of this space within the house, Gene Walder and the knowledgeable team at Vintage Cellars knew that to really take advantage of the room provided, (which is actually below the stairs), they needed to get rid of the original door and add a brand new one facing the main living space. Just a small feat in a series of unique custom features within this cellar! Here at Vintage Cellars, before any design takes shape, it is vital to understand what the clients wants and needs are based on their growing collection of wine. With a good idea of bottle sizes, shapes (some pinot noir bottles, for example have a wider bottom than a typical cabernet sauvignon bottle) and unique features desired, the team of wine cellar designers and wine cellar builders at Vintage Cellars are able to create a very special and desirable wine cellar for each client. The owners of this beautiful home collaborated heavily with the Vintage Cellars team in the design process of this rustic custom wine cellar - something that we aim to do with every project. The homeowners wanted to showcase some of their favorite Magnum sized bottles in a high reveal horizontal display row, directly on top of another area highlighting the best 750 ml's in their collection. This small custom wine room fills most of the left wall with single deep, individual bottle storage. Directly below this wine racking is room for wine case / wine bin storage. Centered within this wall is a nice space for opening and decanting wines with a gorgeous dark stone countertop and room for hanging wine glasses above. The opposite wall is filled floor to ceiling with label revealing horizontal display rows. Again, this type of feature is very desirable in recent years. Homeowners want to be able to showcase the best bottles they own within their custom wine cellars in the most stunning and beautiful ways possible. Additionally, this feature is commonly replicated with metal bars for a more contemporary and modern look and feel. Their wish list included natural woods and traditional Georgian details to infuse warmth and character into their home. Awkward room sizes and locations in the original plan were completely reconfigured to create functional, individual spaces with open entrances that maintained interconnectivity. With young children, visibility into common spaces was important as well. After fully reconfiguring the main floor, the complete transformation was achieved by an uncompromising dedication to the beauty of thoughtful details. Bronze hardware, rustic decorative wood beams, arched entrances, and the wood/brick surround fireplace also contribute to the comfortable, traditional atmosphere. Completely remodeled the inside of the traditional church to make it more modern by closing in the stained glass windows with plaster and paint; revamping the stage to make more room for the musicians; adding sound absorbing panels, new sound equipment, high tech color changing LED lighting and fixtures witch include spot lights, rope lighting along the side wall sconces and large hanging pendants; new carpet in the main area and tile floors in the vestibule/common area were installed and the pews were replaced with comfortable and sound absorbing individual interlocking chairs.
