This lake cabin had gorgeous view and good bones, but had overwhelming wall-to-wall red knotty pine paneling...even on the ceilings!
In order to keep the cabin look but bring a bit of a modern look to the space, we tempered the heavy wood by drywalling sections of the common areas. The blocky fireplace was transformed to feature a stone ledge façade all the way to the high ceilings.
The log-look railings were replaced with sleek, contemporary iron. The floor was replaced with a dark, espresso-stained wood plank floor.
Furniture featured clean, crisp lines and bright colors in natural prints.

The grand entrance is full of details with hand-chiseled newel post combined with stained, wooden treads and risers on the stairs. The iron pickets are heavy and textured. The walls are treated with a slight texture to give the appearance of age and the color is a soft, warm tan that lends itself well with the stronger colors used in the many vintage rugs throughout the home. The wainscoting is customized stained wood with hand-peeled wood repeated the diamond shape from the exterior railings and common with an Adirondack style home.

This home was a renovation of a traditional weekend log home into a modern full time retirement residence. This home was shy of storage, loaded with lots of wood (floors, walls and ceilings were all wood) and was dated and dull. We completely blew out the kitchen and all bathrooms and totally renovated the basement into a cozy entertainment space. The style ended up being "mountain modern" which was sensitive to the modern home style, but fresh with contemporary creature comforts and details.

Cortez natural thin stone veneer complements the wood ceiling of this gorgeous room for a rustic-inspired look. Cortez real stone veneer is a house-made blend of natural quarried sandstones. The blend showcases both the natural mineral stained bedface as well as the more monochromatic interior part of the stone known as the split face. The individual pieces of real stone veneer will range in texture from rippled to sandy and smooth. With its range of natural earth tones, Cortez is versatile and complements a variety of other siding options such as brick, log, and stucco. Cortez can be installed with or without a mortar joint. A half-inch mortar joint is most common, but drystacking the stone gives a rustic yet modern feel.

The original game room served as the catalyst for transforming Evermore into a rustic industrial retreat. The room was connected to the dining area through an awkward vestibule which unnecessarily narrowed the room and rather than connect it to the rest of the home, it isolated it.
The vestibule along with approximately 10ft of the common wall was removed opening up the game room to the entire living area. Over strenuous objections from local contractors we removed all of the log & twig railings and replaced them with what has become a continual conversation piece.
