Whistle Hill Lot 2 residence stands as one of the most architecturally ambitious homes in the development, a striking example of RWH Architect’s commitment to elevating modern design. Defined by its dramatic butterfly roof and a façade composed of clean horizontal cladding, vertical accents, and expansive window groupings, the home captures a sculptural presence rarely seen in the region. This is a residence designed to open itself to its surroundings, embracing light, volume, and long views in a way that signals a new era of contemporary architecture.
The home features an attached three-car garage with an adjacent storage area, creating a practical yet visually streamlined entry sequence. Inside, the first floor is designed around livability and connection to the landscape. The foyer opens into a private office and then flows toward the main living areas. The master suite is intentionally tucked into a quiet corner on the first floor, positioned to overlook the backyard and shaped to allow morning light to filter softly into the space. Adjacent to the master suite is the laundry room, placed strategically for convenience. A secondary bedroom on the first floor includes a walk-in closet, and a nearby three-quarter bath offers flexibility for guests or extended family.
The kitchen serves as the central gathering point of the home, anchored by a large island and complemented by a walk-in pantry. It overlooks an expansive wraparound deck that transitions seamlessly to a lower patio, creating layered outdoor living spaces. Both the dining room and the great room open directly to the deck, enhancing the indoor-outdoor connection. The sunken great room is one of the home’s signature moments, featuring a floating fireplace that appears to hover within the space and accentuates the dramatic ceiling height created by the butterfly roof. The result is a room filled with daylight and volume, a contemporary living environment with an architectural presence that feels both bold and welcoming.
Upstairs, the second floor includes two additional bedrooms, each with walk-in closets, and a full bathroom designed with modern simplicity. From the upper level, the design allows for open views extending back toward the dining room, creating visual connectivity between floors and emphasizing the vertical openness of the home. This intentional play of volume heightens the spatial experience and enhances the sense of modern airiness throughout the interior.
This residence presented several unique design challenges that ultimately helped refine and elevate the final architectural expression. The sweeping butterfly roof created structural complexities due to its dramatic angles and its role in defining the home’s entire visual identity. RWH addressed this by carefully coordinating structural supports and framing patterns that allowed the roof to appear effortless while maintaining its sculptural form. Another significant challenge was balancing the extensive glazing with the need to preserve privacy and energy performance. RWH solved this by thoughtfully arranging high windows, angled openings, and varied window groupings that capture natural light without compromising comfort. Integrating a sunken great room with a floating fireplace required a precise approach to grading, floor transitions, and structural anchoring. Through detailed modeling and coordination, RWH ensured that the fireplace would appear weightless while remaining fully functional and safe. Creating uninterrupted views from the second floor to the dining room also required creative alignment of floor systems and rail detailing, which RWH resolved by designing sleek, integrated guardrails that preserve openness while meeting safety requirements.
Whistle Hill Lot 2 stands as a bold architectural statement and a defining example of the evolving design language within the development. Through innovative forms, expansive volumes, and carefully orchestrated transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces, RWH Architect has created a home that reflects the future of contemporary living in the area—forward-thinking, refined, and undeniably modern.

The Problem-
We undertook this Transitional Kitchen Remodel with Prescott homeowners who were looking for an open floor plan. Most importantly they wanted to tie the kitchen and living room together. As a result, creating one open concept transitional entertaining space. Additionally, this homeowner was a professional cook and needed an expansive workplace to cook with plenty of space for prep.
The Solution-
First, we tore down floor to ceiling dividing walls that separated the kitchen from the living room. Then we got rid of a soffit that trapped the entire kitchen which made it feel tight and cramped. Next, we expanded the kitchen using Maple Grey Mist Cabinets from Wellborn. Adding an eat-in island with accent Gauntlet Maple Cabinets makes this kitchen suitable for entertaining guests while keeping with the transitional kitchen design. Finally, we kept the flow from the kitchen into the living room seamless with luxury vinyl plank flooring.

This customer, who lives in East Byfleet had been experiencing difficulties in keeping her fantastic Travertine tiled kitchen floor in good condition. Over the years it had suffered from a heavy build up of dirt and oily stains, not to mentioned a number of cracks and small holes. Needless to say, the customer was keen to restore the Travertine tiles to their former glory.
To begin the restoration, I applied Tile Doctor Remove and Go across the entirety of the large tiled area. This heavy duty remover breaks down any old sealers and other coatings, leaving the area ready to cleaned or, in this case, burnished.
Burnishing is a method for cleaning and polishing certain types of high-end stone, including Travertine, Marble, and Limestone. Our burnishing system involves the application of four diamond encrusted pads of varying grits. Firstly, I applied the Coarse grit pad, which helps to break down any dirt and stains on the surface of the tiles. Then, I worked my way through the Medium, Fine, and Very Fine pads, using a little water as lubricant, to gradually refine the polish on the Travertine. It was then rinsed and left to dry.
To round off the first day of work, I filled any cracks and holes using our two-part resin system which greatly improved the look of the tile.
The following day I returned to the property to seal the tiles checking first that the floor had dried. All was well so I proceeded to seal the floor using our colour intensifying impregnating sealer Tile Doctor Colour Grow. Once that was dry, I added the finishing touches by buffing the floor with a soft white buffing pad. As you can see from the photographs, the combination of a fresh seal and polish worked wonders.
We did such a good job with the floor that the customer asked if we could also improve the appearance of their natural stone fireplace which was suffering from bad rust and oil stains however I do a separate write up on that.

Our client loved their neighborhood and many things about their ranch home in Occoquan VA, but they wanted to open up the outdated kitchen and brighten up the dark living room and dining room.
We removed the partition wall between the kitchen, dining room, and living room to create a completely open floor plan on the first level of the home. A custom island with drawer storage was integrated into the design to allow for gatherings with family and friends. The entire first floor is now bright, open and functional-and best of all-our homeowners love the final result.

TER won an honorary mention as a part of the YAC’s Calamity Atelier Competition, in addition to the prestigious A' Design Award for Interior Space & Exhibition Design 2019-2020.
The Calamity Atelier competition was based in the art forest of Arte Sella in northern Italy that was in recent years destroyed by a storm. The focus was to bring back life to the forest through the design of a number of spaces.
Design concept description:
Stability is a universal value one seeks to reach in their lifetime.
Given the recent events that shook the core of Art Sella, the basis of its recovery should be in the form of a stable foundation.
The design concept of TER, Malga Costa’s new restaurant expansion, derives from 3 main ideas:
1. What does a “stable” space feel like? Psychologically and physically.
2. The connection between the forest land and the food that is served at the restaurant.
3. How to integrate this space harmoniously into the forest in a way in which it will live cohesively with the neighboring artwork, nature, and people.
The idea of stability is translated through mass, shape, and materials. Different from most of the forest’s artwork, TER looks like a massive boulder rearing in the forest. The stone exterior makes up the majority of the interior as well, acting as its base material.
With the materials, there is a clear balance of old and new. The old acts as the foundation and pays homage to the area’s roots whereas the new alludes to a burgeoning future. Together, they play a game of layering and develop throughout the space.
The connection between the land and the food comes through the method of cooking in the restaurant- which is campfire cooking. In the center of the plan, there is an open outdoor space that is used to cook foods on an open fire. The plan is designed in a circular motion around the open space in order to fully commit to this concept. Everyone in the four areas of the restaurant can view and enjoy the chefs at work, creating a seemingly interactive dining experience.
The restaurant blends into its surroundings by acting as another rock in the landscape. It is differentiated by the smoke arising from its center, which creates a sense of allure and intrigue. It’s a sight that draws people in toward the center – reestablishing the core essence of Art Sella.

Built by Schumacher Homes, America's Largest Custom Home Builder, this stunning Windsor II Modern Farmhouse in Bowling Green, Ohio, effortlessly balances classic architectural details with modern elements. High-end first impressions start the moment you step inside the home, where elegant glass French doors create a bright, airy entrance that establishes a warm, inviting welcome for guests. Inspired by the popular Windsor plan, the Windsor II maximizes spatial flow with an open-concept layout on the first floor, seamlessly connecting the family room, dining area, and kitchen into a unified heart of the home. This expansive main living space is anchored by a dramatic, two-story electric fireplace that brings immense height and sophisticated style to the great room, combining custom wood and tile finishes to provide the perfect cozy focal point.
Designed for premium organization and practicality, the entry from the garage features a highly functional, custom built-in drop zone. Outfitted with dedicated lockers and cubbies, this mudroom space streamlines daily routines by providing a designated area for everyday essentials. For ultimate main-level privacy, the luxurious owner’s retreat serves as a secluded sanctuary on the first floor, featuring abundant storage thanks to two separate walk-in closets. The spa-like owner's bath offers a premium getaway experience, beautifully appointed with a contemporary freestanding soaking tub and a custom tile shower. Upstairs, the home transitions into an entertainment-focused second floor featuring a versatile media room designed to be the ultimate hub for hosting family and friends for movie nights, weekend sports, and casual game nights.

The family who owned this 1965 home chose a dramatic upgrade for their Coquitlam full home renovation. They wanted more room for gatherings, an open concept kitchen, and upgrades to bathrooms and the rec room. Their neighbour knew of our work, and we were glad to bring our skills to another project in the area.
Choosing Dramatic Lines
In the original house, the entryway was cramped, with a closet being the first thing everyone saw.
We opened the entryway and moved the closet, all while maintaining separation between the entry and the living space.
To draw the attention from the entry into the living room, we used a dramatic, flush, black herringbone ceiling detail across the ceiling. This detail goes all the way to the entertainment area on the main floor.
The eye arrives at a stunning waterfall edge walnut mantle, modern fireplace.
Open Concept Kitchen with Lots of Seating
The dividing wall between the kitchen and living areas was removed to create a larger, integrated entertaining space. The kitchen also has easy access to a new outdoor social space.
A new large skylight directly over the kitchen floods the space with natural light.
The kitchen now has gloss white cabinetry, with matte black accents and the same herringbone detail as the living room, and is tied together with a low maintenance Caesarstone’s white Attica quartz for the island countertop.
This over-sized island has barstool seating for five while leaving plenty of room for homework, snacking, socializing, and food prep in the same space.
To maximize space and minimize clutter, we integrated the kitchen appliances into the kitchen island, including a food warming drawer, a hidden fridge, and the dishwasher. This takes the eyes to focus off appliances, and onto the design elements which feed throughout the home.
We also installed a beverage center just beside the kitchen so family and guests can fix themselves a drink, without disrupting the flow of the kitchen.
Updated Downstairs Space, Updated Guest Room, Updated Bathrooms
It was a treat to update this entire house. Upstairs, we renovated the master bedroom with new blackout drapery, new decor, and a warm light grey paint colour. The tight bathroom was transformed with modern fixtures and gorgeous grey tile the homeowners loved.
The two teen girls’ rooms were updated with new lighting and furniture that tied in with the whole home decor, but which also reflected their personal taste.
In the basement, we updated the rec room with a bright modern look and updated fireplace. We added a needed door to the garage. We upgraded the bathrooms and created a legal second suite which the young adult daughter will use, for now.
Laundry Its Own Room, Finally
In a family with four women, you can imagine how much laundry gets done in this house. As part of the renovation, we built a proper laundry room with plenty of storage space, countertops, and a large sink.

✨ Transforming Dreams into Reality: Kitchen Remodeling in Green Lake, Seattle ✨
We are thrilled to share the stunning transformation of a kitchen remodeling project we recently completed in the vibrant Green Lake neighborhood of Seattle. This project was truly a labor of love, and we're excited to showcase the remarkable results that have left our clients delighted.
A Fusion of Elegance and Functionality
At Levite Construction, we believe that a kitchen is not just a place to cook; it's the heart of a home. Our mission was to create a space that seamlessly blends elegance with functionality, and we're proud to say that we've achieved just that.
Two-Tone Cabinets for Timeless Charm
The first thing you'll notice when stepping into this kitchen is the captivating two-tone cabinet design. The deep, rich antique green cabinets exude warmth and sophistication, while the natural wood island adds a touch of rustic charm. This combination creates a visually stunning contrast that makes the kitchen truly stand out.
Spanish Square Classic Tile for a Touch of Tradition
To add a touch of timeless charm, we adorned the kitchen walls with exquisite Spanish square classic tiles. The intricate patterns and warm earthy tones of the tiles bring a sense of tradition and character to the space, making it feel like a cozy gathering place for family and friends.
Clean and Modern Quartz Countertops
For the countertops, we opted for sleek and pristine white quartz. Not only do these countertops create a clean and modern aesthetic, but they also offer durability and easy maintenance – ideal for a busy kitchen.
A Layout Transformation
Perhaps the most significant change in this kitchen remodeling project was the complete layout transformation. We reimagined the space to maximize functionality and create an open concept. This involved the removal of a load-bearing wall at the kitchen's front, which was a significant structural challenge that we were more than prepared to tackle.
Reconfigured Appliances and a New Island
To enhance convenience and efficiency, we rearranged all the kitchen appliances into a more comfortable and user-friendly layout. The centerpiece of the kitchen is the new island, which not only serves as a practical workspace but also as a hub for socializing and entertaining and having the microwave drawer style in the island.
Open Concept Living
By removing the load-bearing wall, we've seamlessly connected the kitchen with the adjoining living areas, creating an open and inviting atmosphere. This open concept design not only enhances the flow of natural light but also encourages interactions among family members and guests.
A Testament to Collaboration
This project was made possible through the collaborative efforts of our dedicated team and the unwavering trust of our clients. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved, and we couldn't be happier with the outcome.
In conclusion, this kitchen remodeling project in Green Lake, Seattle, has been a truly transformative experience. It showcases our commitment to craftsmanship, attention to detail, and our passion for turning our clients' visions into reality.
If you're inspired by this project and have dreams of your own, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at (425) 998-8958. We'd be honored to be a part of your next home transformation.
Thank you for allowing us to share this incredible journey with you, and we look forward to bringing more dreams to life in the future!

This remodeling story is a wonderful example of how removing and shifting walls can have an amazing impact on the functionality and visual appeal of an entire level of a home. When our clients reached out to us, they were looking to create an open concept Kitchen that would allow for easy entertaining. The couple had recently purchased this townhome so his mother could be closer to the family.
The existing floorplan offered first floor living, but the Kitchen was tucked in the back and was separated from the rest of the living space by a full wall with a small pass through into the Dining Room. Our design involved removing the dividing wall between the Dining Room and Kitchen as well as the fake columns and beam that separated the Dining Room and Living Room. The entire space was opened up to allow for easy flow and view throughout the first floor living space. The wall shared by the Kitchen and large Master Bedroom was shifted back just enough to provide a full wall of additional cabinetry including a much-needed large double Pantry cabinet. Now that we had opened up the Kitchen area we could focus on the cabinetry layout and selections.
The existing wood toned cabinets were replaced with white cabinets and crown molding to match the rest of the home. The larger, open space allowed for more cabinetry and the addition of an island with new undermount sink, dishwasher and convenient trash pullout along with seating for the grandchildren. A new range hood was installed and vented to the exterior of the house to replace the old recirculating hood. We were able to repurpose the some of the existing cabinets for use above the washer and dryer in the adjoining Laundry Room and swapped out the existing swinging door for a pocket door to free up traffic flow when doing Laundry and working in the Kitchen. The slate-look ceramic tile was replaced with a pre-engineered hardwood floor that creates a sense of warmth while easy to clean. The new Cambria countertop compliments the slate-look tile found in the Dining Room and Living Room and a natural field tile backsplash offsets the cabinets beautifully.
The single fluorescent ceiling light was outdated and did not provide adequate lighting for the new Kitchen. The new lighting plan was carefully thought out to provide general illumination through well placed recessed lighting; task lighting through pendant lighting over the island and under cabinet lighting; and aesthetic fluidity with an eye-catching chandelier for the Dining Room table. Special details include a touch faucet, under counter microwave and glass front cabinetry for displaying dishes.
By removing and shifting walls, we improved the entire flow of the first floor visually as well as functionally and created a beautiful, light-filled space for cooking and entertaining. Grandma can easily prepare meals in her new Kitchen and still chat with her guests and grandchildren who love to sit at the island as well as in the adjoining Dining Room and Living Room.
The Benson Homes team really enjoyed creating this space for this family and we hope they will enjoy spending time with friends and family for years to come.
